Press Release:

GREENVILLE, NC     Vidant Health has earned CEO Cancer Gold Standard™ re-accreditation for maintaining a strong commitment to the health of its team members and satisfying the latest, comprehensive requirements in corporate culture and health benefits.

The CEO Roundtable on Cancer, a nonprofit organization of chief executive officers founded by former President George H.W. Bush, administers the Gold Standard employee wellness accreditation program to recognize organizations that take concrete initiatives to address cancer in the workplace. Nearly 200 private, nonprofit and government employers in a wide range of occupational categories have earned Gold Standard accreditation, including the National Cancer Institute (NCI) and a number of NCI-designated cancer centers.

"We are excited to have earned this designation once again," said Vidant Chief Executive Officer Dr. Michael Waldrum. "Our cancer care team continues to work diligently to provide ready access to prevention, early intervention and quality patient care to the people of eastern North Carolina."

To earn and maintain CEO Cancer Gold Standard™ accreditation, Vidant must:

  • Establish policies and programs to reduce cancer risk by prohibiting tobacco use and supporting tobacco cessation efforts
  • Promote physical activity, healthy nutrition and weight management
  • Provide health insurance options that include detecting cancer at its earliest stages, access to quality care, and participation in clinical trials
  • Promote employee awareness of internal initiatives
  • Support the needs of cancer survivors in the workplace

This is Vidant's fifth year receiving re-accreditation after first becoming accredited in 2012.
