Nurse Aide Classes at the Washington County Center

    The following classes are available at the Washington County Center in Roper through the Continuing Education Department at BCCC. To register, call 252-940-6375 or email continuingeducation@beaufortccc.edu. If participants need transportation to class, they can schedule a ride with Riverlight Transit by contacting Shonita Gibson, Transportation Coordinator, at (252) 793-4041, extension 255 or by email at ShonitaG@wcchs.org.

    Nurse Aide I and II

    Beaufort County Community College will offer Nurse Aide I and Nurse Aide II training at the Washington County Center beginning January 2018. Nurse Aide I will begin January 9, with classes running from 4:00-8:00 p.m. and every other Saturday from 9:00 a.m.-1:00 p.m. Nurse Aide II begins on January 8, running from 4:00-8:00 p.m. and every other Saturday from 9:00 a.m.-6:00 p.m. Nurse Aide I requires that students must hold a silver Career Readiness Certificate. Students can earn this certificate on the BCCC main campus on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 2:00-4:30 p.m. or at the Roper center on Tuesday from 6:00-9:00p.m.

    Graduates of the program can provide personal care and perform basic nursing skills for elderly adults. Although it is strongly encouraged, a high school diploma or GED is not required for entry into the Nurse Aide I program. Upon completion of the course, the candidate is eligible to apply for the NC State Certification Examination. Nationally, the average salary of a certified nurse aide is $23,000. As the average age of the population has increased, the need for nurse aides has grown and will continue to grow. Nurse aide positions are also perfect for people considering a career as a registered nurse or a licensed practical nurse.
