My first and Last Football Post for 2017

The bowl season can be very stressful for dedicated football fans. I offer this bit of advice for my former Bulldog friends if they lose the Rose Bowl game New Year's Day.  BT

The University of Georgia Bulldogs will be playing the Oklahoma Sooners Monday January 1, 2018

If they lose, I recommend that they follow the Stress Reduction Plan that a UGA Professor posted on his website.  For the record it was rescinded. I did not make this up. Click on the picture or "Here to see the article in The Blaze"

The Blaze

" If you feel unduly stressed by a grade for any assessable material or the overall course, you can email the instructor indicating what grade you think is appropriate, and it will be so changed. No explanation is required, but it is requested that you consider waiting 24 hours before emailing the instructor."

"The Blaze"

  How bout them DAWGS!

There is an old joke that all you had to do to get a University of Georgia diploma is to drive through Athens, Georgia. That is not true!

You have to stop and wind your window down

After a bit of reflection, I think perhaps coaches like Bear Bryant are no longer too prevalent in the college ranks. He not only coached football he coached life. In 1964 he suspended Joe Namath for the last game of the season and the Sugar Bowl for a breaking team rules.

"Alabama had a bye week before its last regular-season game that season against the University of Miami. Namath planned to watch the Army-Navy football game on TV, but the game was pushed back a few weeks because of the assassination of President Kennedy. Instead, he spent an evening at a local diner where, admittedly, he had literally a few sips of beer. This was a clear violation of Coach Bryant's policy of no alcohol during the season. Bryant heard a rumor that Namath had been drinking over the weekend, so he approached his star quarterback and asked him if it was true. Namath admitted to the few sips of beer (while not mentioning that many of his teammates were drunk at an off-campus party that night).

According to Mark Kriegel's excellent book, Namath, after a short deliberation, Coach Bryant told Namath he could allow Namath to continue to play, but to do so would violate Bryant's principles, and the coach would have to resign. Instead, Coach Bryant decided to suspend Namath for the final regular-season game against Miami and for the upcoming Sugar Bowl."

Copy this into your search bar "joe namath and the old fashioned view of punishment" to see the complete article.

Here is a clip with Joe Namath telling a few stories about Bear Bryant and his character building. When a coach benches his star quarterback before the Sugar Bowl, he has more in mind than football. Alabama did win the game against Ole Miss 12 to 7 in a defensive battle.

I confess, I did not watch the game. I did record it for later viewing. Based on a review of the box scores, it appears to have been a fairly even game in the final analysis. I think you are right about Nick Saban. He obviously is a results oriented coach. Pulling your starting quarterback and replacing him with a Freshman took some real serious fortitude.

In regards to Bear Bryant, there is a story about the championship game in heaven and the Saints are behind the Devils with just a few seconds left to play. Saint Peter asks God what play they should call.

God replies, "I don't know, what do out think Bear?"

Sorry about them Dawgs. Nick Saban may be worth the money, however; regardless of the huge salary, he earns he has carved out a bigger place upon the landscape of the college football map for greatness.

He will overtake Bear Bryant, Forrest Gump notwithstanding.

I guess it is safe to say that Nick Saban's salary is a good investment. It was a great game and it proves that it ain't over till it's over.

I am properly chastised. It was a well played and coached game and Georgia deserved the win. Congratulations to all my former Bulldog friends. It was just a joke, I promise.

I posted this entire exchange on Facebook and I did not get one like but several people unfriended me. I sure am glad I don't post politics on FB. I am so glad that Facebook does not have a Middle-Finger Emoji.

Apparently humor is not a requirement for admission to UGA. I can also detect by the views that there are few UGA / Football or Bobby Tony fans on Beaufort County Now. I think I am done for now. I may have to offer apologies after tomorrow's game.

What is the first thing the Georgia graduate says to the Georgia Tech graduate when they meet for coffee in the morning.

"Good Morning, Boss"

Sometimes people ask me what bowl my favorite football team played in. They think that will shut me up. I usually just say that we have had many play in the Space Bowl. Georgia Tech has had 14 Astronauts go to space.

The best thing that ever came out of Athens, Georgia (The location of UGA) is Highway 78 heading to Atlanta. It is called the Atlanta Highway by the residents of Athens because they have a problem with numbers. Both Fran and Herschel took that route to get the heck out of Athens.

I love your detached condescension regarding the intelligence of Georgia football participants. Fran Tarkenton and Herschel Walker certainly did turn out alright.

I have been told that most of the UGA football players are issued a deck of cards when they arrive at training camp. All 52 cards are the same. If they run out of cards the first year another deck is issued. They are limited to 52 decks every eight years.
