CDL Truck Driving and Small Engine Mechanic Classes Coming Up | Eastern North Carolina Now

    BCCC has classes coming up to help students fill high-demand positions. These courses are ideal for students who would like to be self-employed or work with a local company.     CDL Truck Driving (hybrid online class)

    BCCC can get students certified to drive commercially in less than 6 months and for under $600. The truck driver training program will teach students to drive a Class-A combination vehicle and prepare students for their pre-trip inspection, off road skills test and the road driving test, which are all components of the NCDMV Commercial Driver License (CDL) exam. Students will need to purchase the CDL book package from the BCCC bookstore.

    This program is an online hybrid program which involves weekly required online assignments apart from weekly on-campus driving on the week­ends. This course will include an emphasis on log truck driving with the potential to pursue post-course employment with a local logging company. This program is made possible through partnerships with Golden Lead Foundation, NCDOT, Weyerhaeuser, Alligood's Garage and locally owned insurance groups.

    Prerequisites include a valid NCDMV Class-A permit, valid DOT medical card, and a negative DOT drug screen (within 30 days of test date). The fee for this class is $231.25. One class will begin on January 27 and run through May. Another class will start on April 28 and finish in August.

    Small Engine Mechanic

    The small engine mechanic course explores the principles of small gasoline engine design, construction, and operation. It also presents a detailed overview of small engine maintenance, troubleshooting, rebuilding and repair. The course covers the design, construction, operation, diagnosis, service and repair of both mobile and stationary diesel engines. Content relates to on- and off-road vehicles and industrial applications. Students will need to purchase the Small Gas Engine (ISBN: 978-1-63126-390-3) and the Diesel Technology (ISBN: 978-1-61960-832-0) textbooks for class. Students who complete the class can get certified in Two Stroke Engine, Four Stroke Engine and Compact Diesel Engine through the Equipment & Engine Training Council (EETC). Completion of all three qualify individual as an EETC Engine Technician.

    Each EETC credentialing exam costs $50.00 in addition to the registration fee. Retesting fees do apply. This $186.25 class will start January 28 and run through the end of July.
