Experienced Educator Wali Saleem Joins BCCC Board | Eastern NC Now

    WASHINGTON, NC     Wali Saleem has spent his entire career in service to education in Beaufort County. Now Saleem is bringing that experience to the Beaufort County Community College Board of Trustees. Governor Roy Cooper appointed Saleem to the BCCC Board of Trustees on December 4, 2018, to fill a position previously held by Jim Chesnutt. Saleem, with his wife Yvonne alongside him, was affirmed by Clerk of Court Marty Paramore at the BCCC Board of Trustees meeting on February 5.

    Saleem will serve a four-year term expiring in 2022. His role on the board continues a lifelong dedication to education. Saleem earned a Master of Arts in Educational Leadership from East Carolina University. He worked as a mathematics and computer teacher for 18 years, of which he spent 14 years at Washington High School. He was the curriculum director for Beaufort County Schools for seven years. He led three schools during his career, serving as principal at Aurora High School, P.S. Jones Middle School, and Southside High School.

    Since he retired from education, Saleem has operated a tax preparation service, Professional Tax Service in Washington. His wife Yvonne earned an associate's degree from BCCC. The Saleems have one daughter, Robyn, and one son, Wali Jr., and five grandchildren.

    The BCCC Board of Trustees oversees Beaufort County Community College in its mission as a public, comprehensive community college that provides open-door access to university transfer, workforce development, and life-long learning programs for the people of Beaufort, Hyde, Tyrrell, and Washington Counties. The college strives to be an innovative community leader that promotes economic and social mobility through educational opportunities linked to workforce development, public service, and cultural and personal enrichment.
