Press Release:

   Additional screenings slated for April

Over 181 children were screened in 4 days in the first wave of screenings to help determine eligibility for North Carolina Pre-Kindergarten and Title I slots across the county. The screening team used the DIAL 4 screener – which had eight stations running at all times. The screening looked at the areas of motor skills, concepts, and language. Additionally, vision and hearing screenings were available for parents who desired their children screened in those areas. Exit interviews were completed with every parent so they would know how their child did in each area of screening. Screenings are a collaborative effort by Beaufort County Schools, the Beaufort-Hyde Partnership for Children, Care O World, and Headstart. It took 22 people a day to run the screening.

Screenings will resume in April at Northeast Elementary School and S.W. Snowden Elementary School. For more information, visit the Beaufort County Schools homepage at www.beaufort.k12.nc.us and follow the link for Pre-Kindergarten Screenings.
