Northside Cadet Ball and Awards Ceremony held at Yankee Hall plantation | Eastern North Carolina Now

    Northside Air Force JROTC cadets recently had their annual military ball at Yankee Hall Plantation. This event recognizes the top cadets within the cadet corps for outstanding service and achievement.

    Military Ball opens with the receiving line of special guests: Mr. Bob Paciocco and Mr. Durwood Moore - Veterans of Foreign Wars, Mrs. Johanna Huber - Daughters of the American Revolution, Mr. Charles Clark and Mrs. Jennifer Cornelius - Northside Principal and Assistant Principal.

    Cadet Colonel Jessie Miller, Northside Air Force Junior ROTC Operations Commander opened the ceremony with the National Anthem followed by Cadet Captain Raymundo Alonso giving the invocation. Cadets, parents and guest enjoyed a tasty meal of marinated chicken breast, filet mignon, twice-baked potato, string bean á la mode assorted rolls, iced tea, and hot fudge sundae.

    Next, the award ceremony begun as Colonel Mark A. Remick and Master Sergeant Charlie D. Woolard recited over the presentation of cadet recognition. The following cadets were honored with certificates and medals within the following categories.

    Air Force Association Award: Cadet Dalton Siggler (Senior)
    American Legion Scholastic Award: Cadet Jessie Miller (Senior)
    American Legion General Military Excellence Award: Cadet Aldo Plasencia (Junior)
    Daughters of the American Revolution Award: Cadet Desiree Horner (Senior)
    American Veterans Award: Cadet Haley Jones (Junior)
    Reserve Officers Association Award: Cadet Brandon Batchler (Senior)
    Military Order of World Wars Award: Cadet Bradley Smith (Sophomore)
    Military Officers Association of American Award: Cadet Darren Harris (Junior)
    Veterans of Foreign Wars Award: Cadet Dustin Taylor (Junior)
    National Sojourners Award: Cadet Eliza Bowen (Sophomore)
    Sons of the American Revolution Award: Cadet Rene Russell (Junior)
    Scottish Rite Award: Cadet Dale Russ (Sophomore)
    Military Order of the Purple Heart Award: Cadet Jenna Smith (Sophomore)
    Air Force Sergeants Association Award: Cadet Kaley Jones (Senior)
    Tuskegee Airmen Award: Cadet Chris Koke (Senior) and Cadet Marsha Mayo (Senior)

    Cadet Major Dalton Siggler and Cadet Major Desiree Horner conducted the 2012 Kitty Hawk Air Society induction of membership. An invitation to join will be extended only to those students of good character who earn a minimum academic grade of 93 in their Aerospace Science course and earn no grade below 80 for any course in which they are enrolled, and must have a 90 average for their entire course grades combined.

    Colonel Remick and Master Sergeant Woolard ended the formal ceremony with the Squadron Change of Command of outgoing commander Jessie Miller and appointment of Cadet Aldo Plasencia. Cadet Plasencia received the promotion of Lieutenant Colonel.

WASHINGTON, NC— Beaufort County Community College has eight-week, online "Late-Start" courses starting March 6.
A new scholarship will help more North Carolina families attend university and offer them debt-free community college.
