    If the Carolina Panthers want to stand a chance of mounting a postseason challenge of any kind in 2021, they need their young studs to raise their games considerably this offseason. This bears more significance on the defensive side of the ball, which saw plenty of exciting prospects make their presence felt to leave plenty of reasons to be encouraged moving forward.

    Much will depend on what strides each of them makes in the weeks and months ahead before Carolina gets back down to business next season. But considering how much the Panthers have strengthened on defense during their first few moves in free agency, this could become one of the league's most formidable outfits when it's all said and done.

    One cornerstone behind any success that comes Carolina's way is Derrick Brown. The defensive tackle proved more than worthy of the No. 7 overall selection in 2020 with an exceptional rookie season, with the former Auburn standout set to get even better thanks to some significant reinforcements to the front seven since the campaign came to a conclusion.

    Brown needs to make some improvements stopping the run. But this normally comes on with more experience and the way he generated pressure in opposing backfields — a big question mark coming out of college — was incredibly pleasing.
