    Mr. James Rudolph Laney, age 85, a resident of Belhaven, NC, formerly of Greenville, MS, died Sunday April 18, 2021 at his home.

    A memorial service will be held at a later date.

    Mr. Laney was born in Leake County Mississippi on July 8, 1935 to the late James Lamar Laney and Emma Victoria Kelly Laney. He attended Greenville High School and St. Joseph Catholic School in Mississippi. Mr. Laney was a member of the United States Air Force. On July 4, 1954 he married Mary Christine Raney, who survives. He was the owner and operator of Laney Construction in Greenville, MS. Mr. Laney was a member and Deacon of Emmanuel Baptist Church and taught Sunday school for 40 years. He enjoyed fishing and camping, and was a longtime member of several hunting clubs.

    In addition to his wife, Mary Christine Laney, survivors include two children, Kathy Laney Williamson (Lee Radcliffe) of Belhaven, Linda Laney Rushin (Melvin) of Mebane, five grandchildren, Rachel Brinn (Steven), Kelly Myers (Bryan), Joni Monroe (Nick), Jason Laney (Jessica), William Rushin, eight great grandchildren, Lilly Laney, Sophia Laney, Evelyn Laney, Laney Brinn, Everette Brinn, Gavin Myers, Cooper Myers, Emma Monroe, a brother, Charles Rudon Laney of New Albany, MS, and a sister, Hilda Laney Cheatham of Union, MS.

    He is preceded in death by a son, Randy Len Laney, and a sister, Dorothy Opal Thrash.

    The family will receive friends at the home.
