Possible Severe Weather - Tropical Storm Claudette - June 20th, 2021 | Eastern NC Now

The biggest threats to Beaufort County continues to be the possibility of isolated tornados, periods of heavy rain that could produce flash flooding, and winds gust between 25 and 30 mph.

    Good Morning Everyone,

    The National Weather Service's 8am update can be found in the email below and attached briefing. Highlights include:

  • A Tropical Storm Warning - Tropical Storm Claudette - has been issued for areas east of Beaufort County. The previously issued Tropical Storm Watch has been dropped.
  • The biggest threats to Beaufort County continues to be the possibility of isolated tornados, periods of heavy rain that could produce flash flooding, and winds gust between 25 and 30 mph. The communities of Blounts Creek, Edwards, Aurora, Pamlico Beach and Belhaven have the greatest chance of experiencing periods of heavy rain and frequently high wind gusts during the overnight hours tonight.


    We encourage everyone to continue to monitor local media outlets for updates as well as any watches and / or warnings that may be issued. We also encourage everyone to ensure your family, friends and neighbors have a way of receiving watches and / or warnings during the night. (ie. weather radio, push notifications to your phones or other electronic devices)

    The next update from the National Weather Service is scheduled for 6pm today. We will continue to pass information along as we receive it.

    Good morning,

    With the 5 AM advisory update from the Hurricane Center, a Tropical Storm WARNING has been posted for coastal sections of our area. The Tropical Storm Watch has been cancelled. There are not a lot of changes to our expected impacts. Heavy rain and tornado threats will begin this afternoon with the wind and surge threat increasing late tonight through Monday morning.

The city council has only made two official acts as of February 16, 2026
While this afternoon’s update once again included increased probabilities of moderate to major impacts, it will likely be tomorrow before we receive specific accumulation details.
Government and its bureaucracy are not perfect, and never has been in this self-governed society, here at the local level, at our state level, and at our federal level, therefore, it is incumbent upon all elected politicians to seek a comfortable level of representation for our constituents.
