Wilma Ladale Midyette Martin, 71, passed peacefully at Vidant Hospital on September 9, 2021 surrounded by her loving family.

    Wilma Ladale Midyette Martin, 71, passed peacefully at Vidant Hospital on September 9, 2021 surrounded by her loving family. She had completed her race and was called to her heavenly home, as promised by her Savior Jesus Christ.

    A graveside service will be held at 2:30 PM on Sunday, September 12, 2021 at Oakdale Cemetery in Washington, NC with Pastor Darren Walker officiating.

    Ladale was born on January 19, 1950 and raised on Cherry Run Road. She was truly a hard-working farm girl. She had a life-long compassion for children of all ages whether serving in the church ministries, volunteering as a team mother for multiple sports teams, a scout den mother and mentor to the neighborhood kids.

    Her parents, Holland Bell Midyette and Carolee Barker, preceded her in death. She attended Old Ford School through the fifth grade and moved to the city schools and was a 1968 graduate of Washington High School.

    She has two surviving sisters: Carolyn Asby (Mike) and Barbara Jean Clark (Ronnie) and three brothers: H.B., Danny and Ricky.

    On August 17, 1968, she married Louis "Marty" W. Martin, Jr. and have three children: Stephanie Lynn Martin, Wesley Wilkinson Martin, Sr. and Jason Shane Martin; her grandchildren: Marion Joshua Allen of Wilmington, Wesley Wilkinson Martin, Jr., USAF of Idaho, Olivia Ashlynn Baker, Sophia Elizabeth Martin Monette of Cove City, Ashlynn Sloan Martin, Hannah Rose Dixon, Kaden Kane Martin and three great-grandsons: Marion Malachi Allen, Shane Matthew Toler and Colson Luke Baker.

    Ladale was a born again Christian since she was 12 years old and a member of the First Free Will Baptist Church where she taught Sunday School, directed VBS several times and did what she could, as long as her health allowed.

    The family will receive friends from 6:30-8:00 PM on Saturday, September 11, 2021 at Paul Funeral Home in Washington and other times at the home located at 117 Slatestone Drive.

    Memorials may be made to the First Free Will Baptist Church, Missionary Fund, 901 North Bonner Street, Washington, NC 27889.
