Press Release:

RALEIGH     The recently adopted North Carolina state budget includes funds to give a one-time bonus to eligible home- and community-based direct care workers and support staff who provide services to Medicaid and NC Health Choice beneficiaries. The budget also includes a provision to implement a home- and community-based direct care worker wage increase for eligible employees who provide services to Medicaid and NC Health Choice beneficiaries.

Eligible direct care workers include those providing home- and community-based services, working in intermediate care facilities (group homes) for individuals with intellectual disabilities (ICF-IID), and working in waiver programs like CAP/DA and CAP/C, personal care services, home health and other community-based and institutional settings like nursing homes and assisted living facilities.

"The public health emergency continues to be challenging for all of us but has been particularly hard on our direct care workers who provide care to North Carolina's most vulnerable citizens," said Deputy Secretary for NC Medicaid Dave Richard. "We are pleased this budget allocation was approved, acknowledging the critical role of these often-overlooked health care heroes."

Direct care workers should reach out to their employers for specific eligibility details and information about how and when the bonuses and raises will be distributed. NCDHHS anticipates most will be distributed by April 15, 2022.

While this afternoon’s update once again included increased probabilities of moderate to major impacts, it will likely be tomorrow before we receive specific accumulation details.
Government and its bureaucracy are not perfect, and never has been in this self-governed society, here at the local level, at our state level, and at our federal level, therefore, it is incumbent upon all elected politicians to seek a comfortable level of representation for our constituents.
Beaufort County is implementing a new emergency alert system. All residents are encouraged to sign up to receive alerts via phone and email.

Has the local government acted responsibly and transparently?
Beaufort County Commissioners meet, and work by a majority vote to do the business of those constituents they purport to represent.
Waste, fraud, abuse and incompetence continue to govern county school budgets and decision making.

However, if one believes that Beaufort County government is in full command of the issues of our times, here locally, one might need to steel their resolve for a more perfect understanding of the intellect possessed by the Center-Left /Left Coalition.
To borrow a big phrase from this salient plan originating at the federal level, under President Trump's watchful eye, whose time has finally arrived, even here in the mispent realm of Beaufort County government(s).
We must vet, and elect those who will actually represent the people or we will be stuck with the same mess we have now.
