News Release:

    All,

We are asking for your assistance in sharing the following information throughout Beaufort County.

North Carolina's Office of Recovery and Resiliency (NCORR) has reopened the application period of the Homeowner Recovery Program. To be eligible, you must:

  • Have a home that was damaged in Hurricane Florence or Hurricane Matthew.
  • Have owned and occupied your home at the time of the disaster, and must continue to own your home through project completion.
  • Have occupied the home as your primary residence at the time of the storm.
  • Be lawfully present, have legal authority to enter into a funding award, and be willing to give program staff, inspectors, and contractors access to the damaged property.
  • Have a household income that is less than 150 percent of the Area Median Income (AMI). You may be ineligible if your household income is greater than 150 percent of the AMI. For example, a family of four in Cumberland County with an annual household income of $87,150 would be at 150 percent of the AMI. However, ReBuild NC encourages any applicant who believes he or she may be eligible. Homeowners who previously applied to the program between November 2017 and June 2019 (Phase I applicants) must have a total household income below 120 percent AMI.

Additional Information can be found at: Homeowner Recovery Program.

Program applications and all necessary forms can be found at: Application Toolkit

NCORR is planning to reopen a local office in the Walmart Shopping Center (570 Pamlico Plaza, Washington, NC 27889) in the coming weeks to provide in person assistance.

Latest Governing Beaufort County

The city council has only made two official acts as of February 16, 2026
While this afternoon’s update once again included increased probabilities of moderate to major impacts, it will likely be tomorrow before we receive specific accumulation details.
Government and its bureaucracy are not perfect, and never has been in this self-governed society, here at the local level, at our state level, and at our federal level, therefore, it is incumbent upon all elected politicians to seek a comfortable level of representation for our constituents.
Beaufort County is implementing a new emergency alert system. All residents are encouraged to sign up to receive alerts via phone and email.

Has the local government acted responsibly and transparently?
Beaufort County Commissioners meet, and work by a majority vote to do the business of those constituents they purport to represent.
Waste, fraud, abuse and incompetence continue to govern county school budgets and decision making.

However, if one believes that Beaufort County government is in full command of the issues of our times, here locally, one might need to steel their resolve for a more perfect understanding of the intellect possessed by the Center-Left /Left Coalition.
To borrow a big phrase from this salient plan originating at the federal level, under President Trump's watchful eye, whose time has finally arrived, even here in the mispent realm of Beaufort County government(s).
We must vet, and elect those who will actually represent the people or we will be stuck with the same mess we have now.
