The Turnage Theater will be celebrating the opening of its 4th Season on Friday, September 17th, with the legendary Folk music group, The Kingston Trio.

With a diverse and busy season ahead, and strong pre-season ticket sales behind them, the Turnage board, staff, and patrons are anticipating the season opener with a great deal of excitement. Once again, the first show of the new season will begin at 6:30pm with a pre-show reception full of delicious food and complimentary beverages. This time, however, the Turnage Board has arranged for a portrait photographer to capture the moment for all the well dressed patrons who would like to commemorate the event at no additional charge. Also, this year, there will be a special itemized raffle with wonderful prizes, so the Turnage staff reminds attendees to come with cash, check or charge to be able to participate.

Each item in the raffle will be played for separately, so patrons know their raffle tickets are their chance to win the prize(s) they really want. Patrons are encouraged to buy multiple $20 tickets and "bid" on many different items, or increase their odds by using all their tickets on one particular item. However, just one $20 ticket will give the patron a chance to win one of a number of excellent prizes, including a week's rental of a gorgeous vacation home at the beach, a pair of season tickets (over $600 value), and an original Jeff Jakub painting, to name a few.

To encourage generous participation among the attendees, the Turnage is also entering anyone who purchases 10 or more tickets into a drawing for one of 4 limited-edition, Jeff Jakub Turnage Theater prints worth $150 each.

Of course, The Kingston Trio is the night's main attraction, and their show at 8pm is much anticipated by their fans. This is their second appearance at the Turnage Theater, and promises to be just as fun and nostalgic as their first. Another first of this season's opening night is the option for patrons to attend only the performance. So, for people who are not interested in the pageantry and society of the pre-show reception, there is still an opportunity to enjoy The Kingston Trio's beautiful music live, and to meet them after the show.

Tickets range from $40 in the balcony to $100 to sit on stage with The Trio, and are on sale now at the Turnage Theater box office (252 975-1191; 150 West Main St. Washington), or on line at turnagetheater.com.

The Rivers East Workforce Development Board has been awarded a National Dislocated Worker Grant (NDWTG) in the amount of $275,000 to assist the employees of the QVC Rocky Mount Distribution Center that reside in the Rivers East region.
It began as a light rain Thursday night, January 20th, with temperatures a balmy 46 degrees, and by morning a thin layer of ice clung to the firm, bright reddish green Nandina leaves prevalent upon my personal grounds here in Mac'swood.
The renovated and recently revived Turnage Theater has fallen on some pretty hard times as of late, and is being forced to shutter its doors.
I love watching, and taking pictures of small beautiful things just as much as I love making images of wide sweeping vistas. It is all part of God's natural plan, and I am fortunate to have the opportunity to record it for all posterity.
After four full days of frozen Mac'swood cabin fever, I struggled out to take an iced numbing look a my old muse.
When the ice took over, it was unrelenting, and with the full sun of cloudless days, the snow saw little melt
It was hailed as the Bomb Cyclone, a storm consisting of warmer moist air from the Gulf of Mexico that picked up a spinning motion after its center crossed the northern Florida coast, now over the Gulf Stream, and without delay barrelled north up the Atlantic Seaboard.
Sunsets are a natural phenomenon, and always a process where one can estimate that the evening will produce a magnificent sunset, but, one can never be altogether sure until it either happens, or the light of the day unceremoniously just turns dark.
