Supreme Court Gives GOP Another Win, This Time Concerning Congressional Map | Eastern NC Now

    The GOP in Louisiana scored a win on Tuesday when the U.S. Supreme Court reinstated a Republican-drawn congressional map to remain in place for the next election.

    A lower court judge had previously said the map likely diluted black votes and ordered the state legislature "to add a second majority-Black district - citing the state's 'repugnant history' of discrimination," CNN reported.

    The court's brief order on Tuesday "blocked the judge's ruling and granted a petition seeking review in the case," CNN said. "The justices will, the order said, hold the Louisiana case while the court decides a similar one from Alabama in its next term."

    Justices Stephen Breyer, Sonia Sotomayor, and Elena Kagan dissented, according to the order.

    The GOP win on the state congressional map comes in the wake of numerous Supreme Court rulings over the last two weeks that bolster right-wing causes regarding the Second Amendment, abortion, and prayer.

    Last week, the Supreme Court ruled that longtime restrictions New York has placed on carrying concealed firearms violates Americans' Second Amendment and 14th Amendment rights.

    "The high court ruled 6-3 in favor of gun rights in the case of New York State Rifle & Pistol Association Inc. v. Bruen," The Daily Wire reported. "The court heard oral arguments in the case in November, and the court's conservative majority appeared to lean toward dismissing New York's restrictions at the time."

    On Friday, the high court overturned the monumental Roe v. Wade case that legalized abortion across the America. Now, abortion restrictions are kicked back to the states.

    "The 6-3 decision in Dobbs v.s. Jackson Women's Health Organization on Friday followed the early May leak of a draft opinion indicating which way the justices would rule," The Daily Wire reported.

    "That leak prompted protesting across the nation, particularly in Washington, D.C., as well as dozens of attacks and vandalism of pro-life organizations, centers, and churches," the report noted.

    And on Monday, the Supreme Court ruled that prayer from a public high school football coach was protected by the First Amendment.

    "The Supreme Court of the United States ruled in Kennedy v. Bremerton School District that a public high school football coach in the state of Washington had his First Amendment rights violated after he was placed on administrative leave by the school district and banned from participating in the football program for praying on the field after games in view of students," The Daily Wire reported.
