Matt Walsh: Here’s Why Crackpot Trans Care Group Removed Age Guidelines For Sex Changes | Eastern North Carolina Now

    The leading transgender medical care group just removed minimum age recommendations for minors to go on puberty blockers, hormones or even under the knife, which The Daily Wire's Matt Walsh said is no surprise coming from a crackpot organization suddenly in control of a multi-million-dollar industry.

    The new guidance from the World Professional Association for Transgender Health (WPATH) also suggests that if parents don't go along with their child's new identity, the state can intervene to assist with the child's transition. Walsh, speaking Friday on his daily podcast, said the group's new recommendations are meant to undermine the family.

    "The parents are cut out of the equation and consent is deferred not to the child who cannot actually consent, but to the very surgeons and doctors who are financially invested in transitioning as many people as they can as young as they can and as fast as they can," Walsh said. "That's what so much of this is about."

    Walsh said WPATH is a group of "rabid ideologues," and recounted the group's rise in medical circles. WPATH was founded in the late 1970s by a gay social psychologist named Paul Allen Walker, who, according to Walsh, ran a San Francisco practice that facilitated sex change surgeries.

    "Walker never met someone who couldn't be diagnosed with gender dysphoria, according to him," Walsh said, citing the case Walt Heyer, a man who detransitioned back in the early 1990s and has become an activist against radical gender theory.

    Heyer was earmarked for a sex change by Walker, who discounted his history of horrific abuse at the hands of his grandmother who made him dress as a girl when he was very young.

    "Walker's recommendation was that Heyer should use drugs and surgery to affirm the false identity that his insane, abusive grandmother created for him when he was four years old," Walsh said. "That's the kind of mental health professional that Walker, the founder of WPATH was."

    Walker, Walsh said, later died of AIDS and the organization he started changed hands. It is now headed by Walter Pierre Bohman, who is a sexologist and "trans health specialist." He will soon be replaced by Marci Bowers, a sex change surgeon featured in Walsh's film, "What is a Woman?"

    Other top officers in the organization, including treasurer Lauren Schecter, a Chicago plastic surgeon who also performs gender transitions on adults and children, are both ideologically and financially invested in promoting sex change surgeries, Walsh charged.

    "Bowers, Schachter, and many of the rest in leadership and on the board all have made millions of dollars from the gender affirmation business," Walsh said. "So now they're in charge of WPATH, and the more that WPATH relaxes their recommendations and guidelines, and sort of opens things up, and the more of the population that they can include as potential patients and as potential candidates for 'gender affirmation procedures,' the more money they personally make."

    The change in age guidelines came after a draft released late last year lowered the recommended minimum age for minors to obtain cross-sex hormones from 16 to 14, and irreversible chest, face, and genital surgeries to 15, 16 and 17 respectively. In the document rolled out this week, those explicit minimum age recommendations are gone.

    At first glance, Walsh said, the change might mean that WPATH no longer wants a minimum age for such procedures. But he had an even more sinister theory.

    "You might theorize that WPATH removed some of these minimum age guidelines, or at least made them harder to find in the text, made them a little bit less clear, because they don't want people to know that these things are already being done to kids as young as 14," he said. "I mean, they've been talking openly about doing these things to kids for many years."

    Walsh noted that there was one procedure WPATH seemed comfortable setting an unambiguous age limit for: Building an artificial penis out of skin grafts for biological women seeking to be men.

    "Given the complexity of phalloplasty, and current high rates of complications in comparison to other gender-affirming surgical treatments, it is not recommended this surgery be considered in youth under 18 at this time," the new guidelines state.
