EMS Department press release:

Beaufort County is announcing that between February 15, 2013 and February 17, 2013 there will be a Search and Rescue Exercise (SARX) taking place in the vicinity surrounding Camp Bonner North Boy Scout Camp which is located off of Harvey Road and will include areas of Goose Creek State Park. This is the thirteenth consecutive year the SARX has taken place in Beaufort County. We are expecting Man tracking teams, dog scent tracking teams, cadaver dog teams, mounted equine search and rescue team, waterborne search teams and NC Highway Patrol helicopter team participating in the activities. These are the very teams that would respond to a search in Eastern North Carolina for a lost person or boating incident. The vast majority of these teams are all volunteers who hold down full-time jobs in various occupations and search and rescue is there passion.

North Carolina Canine Emergency Response Team (NCCERT) organizes and Beaufort County Emergency Services host this event. Please be aware that if you live in the immediate areas surrounding the exercise you will probably see the various teams out working to locate their missing person. We will have boats operating in the Pamlico River on Saturday afternoon and low flying helicopter operations in late afternoon and during the early evening hours (7:00pm - 11:00pm) Saturday evening. Questions regarding this exercise should be directed to Chief Mac Morgan, NCCERT at 919-796-2218 or John Pack, Coordinator, Beaufort County Emergency Services at (252) 946- 2046.
