    Fifty-six BCCC students inducted into Gamma Beta Phi Honor Society Fifty-six BCCC students were inducted into the Gamma Phi Honor Society in a ceremony held on the BCCC campus Tuesday, Feb. 12, the largest group of students inducted into the organization in recent years.

Gamma Beta Phi officers and advisors for the current academic year are, left to right, Erica Schatz, chair of the Allied Health Division, LaJena Roberson, GBP reporter/historian; Shannon Andrews, GBP secretary; Dena Douglas, GBP president; Michael Johnson, GBP vice president; Charles Martin, GBP treasurer, and Velma Worsley, lead Cosmetology instructor.
    Mike Johnson, vice president, welcomed members and their guests. The invocation was led by Shanna Andrews, treasurer. The Pledge of Membership was led by chapter President Dena Douglas. The chapter recognized its advisors, Erica Schatz, Allied Health Division chair, and Velma Worsley, lead cosmetology instructor, and their assistants, Theresa Edwards, student activities coordinator, and Morgan Roberson, human resources specialist.

    With national headquarters in Oak Ridge, Tenn., Gamma Beta Phi is an honor and service organization. The chapter at BCCC was chartered in 1975 under the leadership of Betty Cochran, former BCCC Arts and Sciences Division Chair.

    Membership is by invitation only. To be eligible, a student must be currently enrolled, must have completed at least 12 semester hours of college work and must have a 3.3 grade point average, among other membership criteria.

    Past Gamma Beta Phi service projects at BCCC have included participation in Habitat for Humanity's Collegiate Challenge, support of Heifer International, co-sponsorship of the annual BCCC Job Fair and work at the Martin County site of *Extreme Makeover: Home Edition. This year, club members plan to work with the Beaufort County Humane Society and target charitable activities to children*s cancer patients.

    A reception for new members and their guests followed the ceremony.
