BCCC Congratulates Darragh Foundation Scholarship Recipients | Eastern NC Now

    The Beaufort County Community College Foundation is proud to announce the following Darragh Foundation Scholarship recipients. The Beaufort Promise Scholarship will continue for qualified students from Beaufort, Hyde, Tyrrell, and Washington Counties, but private scholarships such as those through the Darragh Foundation can help cover textbooks. Other recipients will be announced throughout the spring.

    Established in 1998 by Richard and Mildred Darragh, the Darragh family focuses on the impact of education in the communities it serves. The Darragh Foundation's mission is "Helping to Improve the Lives of Others." Scholarships are awarded to Continuing Education students seeking their high school equivalency diploma and students working towards an industry-recognized credential returning to the workforce. Scholarships are awarded biannually and students must show academic promise and demonstrate need.

    Zoe Henawi, 26, is a Washington resident and an industrial sewing and upholstery student. Henawi attended Ocracoke High School. Her plans are to work in upholstery and interior design.

    Shannon Horton, 36, is a Washington resident and a natural hair care specialist student. She attended Washington High School. Horton currently works at Red Oak Assisted Living.

    Kayla Jimerson, 31, is a Greenville resident and an esthetics student. Jimerson attended Bertie High School and holds an Associate in Applied Sciences in Human Services and Mental Health. She is a mother of three and the daughter of Theresa Freeman and Dominic Jimerson.

    Shakayla Johnson, 19, is a resident of Washington. She attended Washington High School. She currently works at Walmart and plans to work as a nail technician.

    Catherine Jones, 62, is a Pinetown resident and is in the industrial sewing and upholstery program. Jones attended Campbell High School and holds a bachelor's degree. She plans to work in upholstery repair. (Not pictured)

    Arissa Kim, 19, is a Washington resident and a nail technician student. Kim attended Washington High School. She plans to work in a nail salon.

    Lauren Mills, 36, is a Washington resident and is in the esthetics program. She attended High Point Central High school. Mills plans to become a licensed esthetician and start her own business.

    Roychelle Payton-Kincy, 36, is a Greenville resident who is a part of the nail technician program. Payton-Kincy attended North Pitt High School. She has a Bachelor of Arts in English and plans to become a business owner.

    Virjeania Price, 45, is a resident of Plymouth. She attended Plymouth High School and holds an Associate in General Education and a Diploma in Practical Nursing. Price currently works at Carrolton of Plymouth as a nurse. She plans to own a business.
