BCCC's Lou Stout takes reins as president of association | Eastern North Carolina Now

Press Release:

Lou Stout, director of Occupational Extension and Human Resources Development at Beaufort County Community College, recently took the reins as president of a statewide association of adult educators.

Stout was recently elected President of the North Carolina Community College Adult Educators Association, or NCCCAEA, by the association's membership and will lead the organization throughout 2013.

As President, Stout will work with the association's Board of Directors and the N.C. Community College System Office to address issues affecting adult education during the year and will keep association members informed on various activities throughout the year.

"It is humbling and rewarding to know that peers outside of our college recognize the work I do and put faith in me to lead our association," she said.

Stout has been employed in the Division of Continuing Education at BCCC for 17 years. She began her career at the college as a secretary in the Small Business Center and has worked her way up through the ranks at the college. Stout has served as Registration Specialist, Office Manager and Coordinator of Records and Special Programs before being named Director of Occupational Extension.

She earned an associate's degree from BCCC in 1990 and a bachelor's degree in management and organizational development from Mount Olive College in 2009. She is currently pursuing a master's degree in business administration from the University of Saint Mary.

Stout has been an active member of the NCCCAEA for the past six years and has served in various roles in the organization. She has been a conference presenter, planning committee member and chairman of the association's state conference. Before being elected president, she served as President-elect of the group.

The NCCAEA was formed in 1965 as the Community College Adult Educators of North Carolina. Membership is open to full-time or part-time continuing education instructors, administrators and support staff employed in the North Carolina Community College System.

Stout attends the First Church of Christ. She is the daughter of Brenda and Daniel Gray Adams of Beaufort County. She and her husband, Richard, live on the family farm east of Washington with their Welsh Corgi named Nubby. In her spare time, she enjoys reading, gardening and spending vacations at the beach.
