Press Release:

WASHINGTON, NC     Washington-Warren Airport (KOCW) will celebrate the groundbreaking of infrastructure projects on Friday, April 7 from 11:00 a.m. until 3:00 p.m.

In December of 2021, with efforts led by Representative Keith Kidwell, Washington-Warren was awarded $20 million in funding to support the Airport's economic development plans. The planned infrastructure projects will allow the airport to meet the high demand for hangar space and the growing demands in the aerospace and marine industry.

"This event is a celebration of another major milestone in the Airport's goal to be the significant economic engine for the City of Washington, Beaufort County, and all of Eastern North Carolina we know it can be. The hangars that are being built are part of the Airport's strategic plan designed to fulfill current needs and future needs required to bring higher paying jobs to this great community," State Representative Keith Kidwell said.

These, along with other projects, will move the Airport towards a self-sustaining entity for the City.

"I believe what we are seeing here in Washington is an example of great teamwork in progress," said Airport Manager Earl Malpass. "Everyone is pulling together, from the hardworking airport staff, our volunteers, the Washington-Warren Airport Authority members, City and County officials, and the General Assembly who see the potential and a bright future here in 'The Original Washington'."

The celebration will take place at Washington-Warren Airport, located at 200 Airport Road. Food will be served.
