    RALEIGH     Six applicants have filed certificate of need applications with the North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services to acquire one or more mobile MRI scanner(s) in response to a need determination in the 2023 State Medical Facilities Plan for three mobile MRI scanners statewide. The applicants propose ten projects.

  • EmergeOrtho P.A. proposes three projects:
  • EmergeOrtho P.A. proposes to acquire a mobile MRI scanner and serve four host sites in the Blue Ridge/ Foothills area. The project is expected to cost $1.5 million and would be completed in April 2024.
  • EmergeOrtho P.A. proposes to acquire a mobile MRI scanner and serve four host sites in the Triad area. The project is expected to cost $1.2 million and would be completed in April 2024.
  • EmergeOrtho P.A. proposes to acquire a mobile MRI scanner and serve four host sites in the Triangle area. The project is expected to cost $1 million and would be completed in April 2024.

    Alliance Healthcare Services Inc. proposes one project:

  • Alliance Healthcare Services Inc. proposes to acquire a mobile MRI scanner and serve three host sites in Buncombe, Caldwell and Forsyth counties. The project is expected to cost $2 million and would be completed in September 2024.

    Carolina Neurosurgery & Spine Associates, P.A. proposes two projects:

  • Carolina Neurosurgery & Spine Associates, P.A. proposes to acquire a mobile MRI scanner and serve host sites in Guilford and Mecklenburg counties. The project is expected to cost $2.2 million and would be completed in May 2024.
  • Carolina Neurosurgery & Spine Associates, P.A. proposes to acquire a mobile MRI scanner and serve host sites in Gaston and Mecklenburg counties. The project is expected to cost $2.2 million and would be completed in May 2024.

    Novant Health Inc. & Novant Health-Norfolk LLC propose two projects:

  • Novant Health Inc. and Novant Health-Norfolk LLC propose to acquire a mobile MRI scanner and serve five host sites in eastern and central North Carolina. The project is expected to cost $2.29 million and would be completed in October 2024.
  • Novant Health Inc. and Novant Health-Norfolk LLC propose to acquire a mobile MRI scanner and serve three host sites in western North Carolina. The project is expected to cost $2.29 million and would be completed in October 2024.

    Pinnacle Health Services of North Carolina LLC proposes one project:

  • Pinnacle Health Services of North Carolina LLC propose to acquire a mobile MRI scanner and serve a total of five host sites in Forsyth, Guilford and Wake counties. The project is expected to cost $2.3 million and would be completed in January 2025.

    Duke University Health System Inc. proposes one project:

  • Duke University Health System Inc. proposes to acquire a mobile MRI scanner and serve a total of four host sites in Alamance, Durham and Wake counties. The project is expected to cost $2.79 million and would be completed in January 2025.

    A public hearing for these projects will be held June 19 at 10 a.m. in conference room 104 of the Brown Building on Dorothea Dix Campus, 801 Biggs Drive in Raleigh.

    Anyone may file written comments concerning this proposal. Comments must be received by the Healthcare Planning and Certificate of Need Section no later than 5 p.m. on May 31.
