A pregnant woman shot a man who attacked her family during a Memorial Day visit to Arkansas, according to a police report.

The incident occurred in a parking garage in Little Rock during a robbery attempt, police said. The woman, who was with her husband and two children, told police that her husband was tackled and punched by a man as he was loading something on top of their van. She said that the man then went into the car and struck her, which is when she pulled out a gun and shot him.

The man accused of attacking and attempting to rob the family was identified as 37-year-old Markevious King. The police were called and King was then transported to a nearby hospital.

The husband, who said his family was from Memphis, told KARK that they had come to Little Rock to go to the zoo and a waterpark to celebrate his daughter's birthday.

"Ah, just a fractured rib, and my wife has a couple of knots on her forehead where he apparently punched her," the husband said, describing the family's injuries.

"A lot of things could've happened and we never know what he was really planning or anything. if he was trying to kidnap our girls or just trying to steal the car or what," he added.

He added that the family was used to violent events because they lived around Memphis.

"We live in Memphis and this kind of happens to people here all the time so I mean it's not something we are going to let shine down or shadow down on our lives because we do like to travel," he said.

Pregnant women have used guns in self-defense in the past, including one high-profile incident near Tampa, Florida, in 2019 when a woman, eight months pregnant, shot an armed home intruder with an AR-15, according to officials.

"They came in heavily hooded and masked," Jeremy King told Bay News 9 at the time. "As soon as they had got the back door opened, they had a pistol on me and was grabbing my 11-year-old daughter."

The sheriff's office said that the rifle was legally owned and fired once, killing the intruder, during the incident.

"Them guys came in with two normal pistols and my AR stopped it," King added. "[My wife] evened the playing field and kept them from killing me."
