H298 Urgent Action Requested | Eastern North Carolina Now

Stan:

As you know by now, our number one North Carolina energy/economics/environmental bill of the year is H298. If passed this will have a beneficial economic and environmental impact on essentially EVERY NC resident and business.

Last week it received a surprising negative vote in the House Utilities Committee, when six Republicans failed to support the measure. See this story.

I was just told that it will be heard again in the House Utilities Committee, tomorrow at noon (LOB 643). Since several other matters are also to be heard by the committee, there will probably not be time for public comments.

What we DO need to do, is to immediately call all the committee members who voted "no" last week - esp the Republicans (see below).

    Here are the Talking Points:

-- H298 is about assuring NET jobs and economic development (not propping up a small niche market). [Reference this report.]

-- H298 is about benefitting the vast majority of NC citizens and businesses (i.e. not some politically favored few).

-- H298 is not about solving all NC energy issues, just fixing one major inequity: Senate Bill 3's mandate.
(There is zero legitimate justification for legislators to force any product on all NC citizens and businesses.)

-- H298 is about protecting NC military installations from substantial problems caused by industrial wind energy.
(In effect, SB3 is forcing wind energy into coastal areas that conflict with key NC military bases meeting their mission.)

-- H298 is about protecting NC wildlife and environmentally sensitive areas [see this report].

-- H298 is an apolitical matter that should be supported by ALL legislators.

The Legislators who need to be contacted, today, are:
Special House Utility Committee Republican members:
Rep Roger West: (919) 733-5859 [did not vote last time]
Rep Harry Warren: (919) 733-5784 [absent last time]

Those who voted against H298 last week:

    House Utility Committee Republican members:
    Rep Jerry Dockham: (919) 715-2526
    Rep Ruth Samuelson: (919) 715-3009
    Rep Nelson Dollar: (919) 715-0795
    Rep Charles Jeter: (919) 733-5654
    Rep Linda Johnson: (919) 733-5681
    Rep Tim Moore: (919) 733-4838

    House Utility Committee Democrat members:

    Rep Susi Hamilton: (919) 733-5754
    Rep Kelly Alexander: (919) 733-5778
    Rep Beverly Earle: (919) 715-2530
    Rep Rosa Gill: (919) 733-5880
    Rep Duane Hall: (919) 733-5755
    Rep Ed Hanes: (919) 733-5829
    Rep Marvin Lucas: (919) 733-5775
    Rep Pricey Harrison: (919) 733-5771
    Rep Paul Luebke: (919) 733-7663
    Rep Rodney Moore: (919) 733-5606
    Rep Garland Pierce: (919) 733-5803
    Rep Michael Wray: (919) 733-5662

Please pass this on to interested NC citizens, and let me know any questions.

THANK YOU for your help with this EXTREMELY important matter.

Please let me know any questions.

Please pass this on to other interested NC citizens.

    Regards,
