Good news! HB 475 passed House Transportation Committee | Eastern North Carolina Now

    News Release:

On Tuesday, 5/28/13, the House Transportation Committee approved HB #475 "Ferry Tolling Alternatives". Thanks to Primary Sponsors Rep. Charles Jeter, Paul Tine, John Torbett, and Frank Iler, who stood together to present HB#475 and answer numerous questions from Transportation Committee members. Thanks also to Rep. Michael Speciale, Bob Steinburg, and nine other Representatives who co-sponsored this good bill.

Please call House Transportation Committee Chairman Rep. William Brawley. Thank him for allowing a full debate and vote on HB#475. Rep. Brawley is an urban legislator from Mecklenburg County. He has been especially kind and cooperative in allowing our coastal bill to be heard.

HB#475 now goes to the House Finance Committee, where it must be considered and approved before it can go to the full House of Representatives.

We are gaining momentum! We need your help to alert and provide information to legislators. Call or email all members of the NC House Finance Committee. Ask them to support HB#475. For a complete list of the members of this large committee, click here.

Representatives who work on transportation issues are aware of the many problems associated with imposing a new ferry tax on commuters and islanders. Most have voted with us as we look for alternatives to taxing ferry passengers. Now, it is time to communicate with a larger group of Representatives, many of whom are not familiar with the ferry tax issue.

Call and email all members of the NC House Finance Committee. Be polite, informative, and brief. Ask the Representative to support HB#475.

Remember, our fight is not over! Build momentum! Inform more Representatives about the ferry tax issue, and ask them to help us in the House Finance Committee.

For more specific information, please do not hesitate to contact us. Thanks!

    Best regards,

     Henri and Joe McClees
