Sixth Annual "Run, Walk and Roll 5K & 1 Mile Fun Run/Walk" to be held Sept. 21 | Eastern NC Now

The 5K and one-mile event will take place on a course through downtown Greenville and East Carolina University. Registration begins at 7:15 a.m. at St. James United Methodist Church.

    GREENVILLE, NC     The Rehabilitation Center at Vidant Medical Center will hold the Sixth Annual "Run, Walk and Roll road race on Saturday, Sept. 21 at 8:30 a.m.

    The 5K and one-mile event will take place on a course through downtown Greenville and East Carolina University. Registration begins at 7:15 a.m. at St. James United Methodist Church. This event promotes outdoor recreation for people of all levels of physical abilities. Former and current patients are encouraged to participate.

    Returning for his second road race, Greg Ambrose will again walk the 3.1 mile course. This is a great accomplishment for Ambrose, as he has two lower extremity amputations.

    "I can't ride a pogo stick or jump rope but there's nothing else I can't do," Ambrose said.

    The race course is certified with USA Track & Field (USATF) and is suitable for wheelchairs and hand crank bikes.

    "We are thrilled to be sponsoring our sixth annual 5k and one-mile fun run and walk," said Dr. Daniel Moore, medical director of the rehabilitation center, and professor and chair of physical medicine and rehabilitation at the Brody School of Medicine at East Carolina University. "This is a great opportunity to bring together former patients, families and staff to have fun and support a great cause."

    Net proceeds from the race will benefit programs and services within Vidant Health Rehabilitation Services.

    Since 1977, the rehabilitation center in Greenville has offered a wide range of integrated inpatient and outpatient programs. Through both a 75-bed inpatient rehabilitation center and four different outpatient locations, specialized care is provided for adults and children with stroke, spinal cord injury, acquired brain injury, orthopedic injuries and neuromuscular disorders.
