Polymer Manufacturer Expansion Brings 76 Jobs to Rutherford County | Eastern NC Now

    Raleigh, NC  -  Governor Pat McCrory and North Carolina Commerce Secretary Sharon Decker announced today that Trelleborg Coated Systems US, Inc., a leading manufacturer of engineered polymer solutions, will expand its operations in Rutherford County. The company plans to create 76 new jobs and invest $10.6 million over the next four years in Rutherfordton.

    "Creating new jobs in North Carolina is one of my main priorities. We know that our strong business climate, superior infrastructure and talented workforce are very attractive to advanced manufacturers like Trelleborg," said Governor McCrory. "We are keenly focused on working with existing businesses to help them expand right here in North Carolina."

    Trelleborg Coated Systems, a division of the Trelleborg Group, headquartered in Lodi Vecchio, Italy, is a leading global supplier of polymer-coated fabrics deployed in several industrial applications. The company is expanding in Rutherfordton with the addition of a new production line to support the growth of the global aerospace market. Trelleborg Coated Systems supplies engineered fabrics for the development of aircraft evacuation slides and life rafts.

    "We're thrilled about Trelleborg's growing investment in Rutherfordton and the new jobs they'll create in a rural county hit hard by the recession," said Secretary Decker. "Advanced manufacturing is our heritage and it's also our future in North Carolina."

    Salaries for the new positions will vary by job function, but the total annual payroll will exceed $5 million.

    The project was made possible in part by a $440,000 grant from the One North Carolina Fund. The grant is contingent upon proof of job creation and receipt of a local funding match. The One NC Fund provides financial assistance, through local governments, to attract business projects that will stimulate economic activity and create new jobs in the state. Companies receive no money up front and must meet job creation and investment performance standards to qualify for grant funds.

"Today's job announcement shows that by working together and effectively leveraging our region's talent and resources, Rutherford County can be a leader in North Carolina's manufacturing sector once again."

"The additional skilled manufacturing jobs that they'll create will strengthen the local economy of Rutherfordton, and I am glad to see our economic policies passed in the legislature are paying off by bringing jobs to Rutherford County."

    Other partners that helped with this project include: the N.C. Department of Commerce, N.C. Community Colleges, Rutherford County, Duke Energy, Town of Rutherfordton and the Rutherford County Economic Development Commission.
