State recreational water quality officials today are alerting the public that initial testing at a sound-side site in Beaufort County showed levels of bacteria exceeding the state and Environmental Protection Agency's recreational water quality swimming standards.

Senator Bill Cook filed Senate Bill 792 to stop ferry tolling. Senator Norman Sanderson joined with Sen. Cook to find other monies to permanently replace receipts that would have been generated by ferry tolling.

The Town of Chocowinity Planning Board, meeting in regular monthly session Tuesday (4-21-14), voted unanimously to deny a request by Beaufort County to amend the zoning ordinance to allow for a jail in the L1 zoning classification which would have the effect of blocking a jail

No one has yet offered any kind of cash flow spreadsheet for the public to use in assessing the proposed jail to be built in Chocowinity.

The lame-duck Beaufort County Jail Committee met April 9 and continued its push to ramrod a new jail on the taxpayers before the upcoming elections, when many believe the current majority of one vote will be reversed.
