Van Zant: Just heard today, in my continual travels: The Beaufort County GOP needs to quickly tighten up its ship, or it could be in danger of sinking, in other words and in reference to "Truth Be Told": "Those who live glass houses should NOT throw stones."

There is a video now in the public domain suggesting that the recent Leftist canonized saint, Saint Alex, has had some prior trouble with ICE, where he wantonly and violently public public property, and possibly spat on an agent, and then was summarily "taken down." This all occurred about one week before his unfortunate death.

There is no information as to whether Mr. Pretti was packing his nine millimeter at that time.

Conservative Republican County Commissioner Hood Richardson is the sole apparatus of the Conservative Republican Club, the one who manages its mechanisms, and, alternatively to the Beaufort County GOP, allows all members to interject and discuss the issues at hand, where he perfectly keeps the peace of this First Amendment affair, and everyone is happy having the right to assemble, and, additionally, having the full right to practice their Free Speech, and absorb the Free Speech of others.

What is not welcome at The Hood's meetings is mendacity. If The RINOs and RINO Whisperers' wish to test the competence and veracity of the venerable County Commissioner ... Good luck; The Hood has spent a long life trying to do the Right thing, and while he may not be perfect, The Hood is a Beaufort County Treasure.

Personally, I truly appreciate the salt-of-the-earth Real Conservatives that attend what Hood has built and continues to presides over - The Conservative Republican Club ... Hypocrites need not apply; they will NOT be welcomed.

I believe in the second amendment as much as any fellow 2nd Amendment advocate, but one still must possess the great good sense to NEVER take a handgun, with plenty of ammo, to an immeasurably stressed public spectacle, where incredibly well armed opponents are trying to do what they are paid to do, and most of their opponents there are paid to get within their way as they proceed to do their designated jobs

This is where and why I concocted the "Darwin Awards" designation for the Departed Mr. Pretti.

Commented on Republican Purge

Van Zant: The reason for the Beaufort County GOP is to have an Executive Committee that conducts the business of the local Republican Party. I believe we agree, it is not there to further the would be political careers of its officers.

RINO Hunter: Thank-you for your good words of support. I know I am running scared, but I will never forget that 2014 election.

I well appreciate those that support me; those that support my understanding of the proper pathway to enact Conservative policy; that which is needed terribly here in Beaufort County, and beyond. I appreciate you RINO Hunter, and I too will always support others who will do the same; just as I always have.

Thank-you for your contributions in word here on Eastern NC NOW and the Beaufort Observer.

Van Zant: There have been precious few business meetings; none since September.

I am showing up to every pseudo meeting, even though no real business is conducted because my one Executive Committee vote matters, and we need to straighten this mammoth mess out, irrespective of the immanent Republican primary.
Commented: Thursday, January 22nd, 2026 @ 7:03 pm By: Stan Deatherage
Actually RINO Hunter, in that specific primary election, Beaufort County Conservatives would have been far better served if folks had just voted for Stan, even though I was the presumptive front runner, rather than split their familial voting pattern to get another possible Conservative to help Hood and Stan. Plus, over 50,000.00 was spent to take me out, and in the clarity of hindsight, it was a concerted effort by both the RINOs and RINO Whisperers to do so. I well know that now

Yeah, the county Conservative would be far better off if my constituents had NOT split their votes; just voted for Stan, and, with my assured election, knocked out at least one of the RINOs /RINO Whisperers in that 2014 primary election.

Ask Hood, who was the lone Conservative on that board for 4 years once the local GOP helped take me out. and he will tell you the exact same thing I just related about that infamous 2014 primary election.

What did I learn? I need all votes I can get in this upcoming 2026 Republican primary, or you may, once again, lose one of the two Conservative leaders. With Limited Voting, any crazy happenstance may occur. So. vote for Stan Deatherage, and let's defeat the RINOs and the RINO Whisperers this time around, 8 years later.

Commented on Republican Purge

Van Zant: You sure have a handle on best practices; the kind that Hood and I have long espoused on the Beaufort County Commission, and now Tandy is working right along with us to effect the best governing we can muster, while still working as a slim minority, with the Center-Left /Left Coalition majority working at the behest of Democratic Socialists and RINOs alike ...

Van Zant: You sound like a Conservative, who knows many salient facts about proper governing; doing the People's business.
Commented: Thursday, January 22nd, 2026 @ 8:33 am By: Stan Deatherage
Dave Hudson: Just to Reiterate a salient fact that was not mentioned in this post, Jody Forrest often told bystanders visiting the local GOP Headquarters that "Stan Deatherage is NOT a real Republican; but a RINO!" Whether, it was a primary, or a general election that I was a candidate for, this was said by her, and recounted to me by various people, on many occasions.

The grand hypocrisy here is that Jody generally supports Democratic initiatives, which cut against the grain of Conservative leaders, who wish to cut down the size of inefficient, bloated local governments here locally, and beyond.

Jody Forrest, like so many of today's RINOs and RINO Whisperers in the Beaufort County GOP, were nowhere to be found when we, Conservatives, built the Beaufort County GOP to a point, where even these Democrats that Ms. Forrest favors and consorts with, Republican Imposters all, could switch parties, get elected as Republicans, and then govern as the Democrats that they are to their core being.

These imposters are perfect examples of RINOs, those who enact acts of Party Disloyalty on a regular basis due to the inescapable fact that all RINOs are, at their core, political frauds, and thereby govern as such.

Commented on Van Zant's Profile

Van Zant: These are most of the reasons why the Beaufort County GOP is NO use to my re-election as the proven Conservative candidate. I will wait to see to what extent that the damage may be done, but my hope is that the public, at large, will not take their prospective rouge actions seriously.
Commented: Wednesday, January 21st, 2026 @ 8:45 am By: Stan Deatherage
Van Zant: Thank-you for your confidence, and I, too, despise Limited Voting as much as any Beaufort County voter who would rather have better representation by having more votes for what seats are available, but, that is just not the way it is now, and it has been this sorry way since 1992.

With Limited Voting in place, and limiting voting for all, there is a tendency to split votes in families, and that kind of action got me beat in a primary once in 2014, and nearly got Hood beat two years earlier.

I remind all when I lost that primary, as the assumed front runner, Frankie Waters was elected with Ron Buzzeo, which began a spending spree in Beaufort County, which put the Bureaucrat Class in control, which helped lift Beaufort County's GOP into a landing pad for RINOs. Remember that The Hood was alone on that board of commissioners, as the only Conservative for 4 years, until I was elected as a non incumbent for the third time. Now we have 3 Conservatives, and granted we need another, but can we afford to lose me again like in 2014?

It is a conundrum Van Zant that can backfire, so respectively Van Zant, I ask for all of your votes, all that you can muster, and yet, I still pray for a second Conservative to be elected as well. Beaufort County needs that voting Conservative block, but not without me, and all I know from all my experience.

It is not an easy task governing without guidance. At this point in this long career, I have plenty of guidance to give. Between The Hood and myself, and two more votes, we can straighten this mess out that Beaufort County has become, a cesspool for stupid, and often corrupt governing, bad governing within so many levels of smaller governing bodies, all of which I have been powerless to rein while in the political minority ... The Conservative minority.

And one more Van Zant; you are right about Carolyn.

Van Zant: For me this primary feels like I am running against the RINOs and the RINO Whisperers; my ideas against theirs, and may this be a referendum on the People voting in this election, and not so much on the candidates, other than me. I am real and right as rain.

That is the way I see it, and now especially since I hear that they are coming for me again since I am the undisputed front running, tried and true, battle tested, and most unflinching Conservative in this local election.

In these recent elections, the Democrats do not run any candidates now because they can easier get their candidates as RINO Republicans, at least that is what I have been told by some former prominent Democrats, ie Democrat Frankie Waters; Democrat Randy Walker, which begs the question to be answered: Who are the Democrats running as RINOs this time around in this 2026 Republican Primary? Additionally: To what extent are the RINOs and the RINO Whisperers in the Beaufort County GOP complicit in give great succour and comfort to these Fake Republicans in this 2026 general election?

Van Zant: If you had told me 22 years ago that we would have had all these RINOs in our political midst at this level of good governing intrusion, I would not have believed it.

Back then, in the party, we still had the RINOs, like then chairman "Hopeless" Van Dorp, who as chairman worked to have me lose in a special election to then Democrat Party Chairman Etles Henries (the Democrat candidate) to relace Conservative Commissioner Carol Cochran, who had hand picked me to as her successor. Hood still likes to remark that in this election, it was the "first time a Republican had won an election in Beaufort County where Stan defeated both the Democrat party chairman and the Republican party chairman in the same election.

And then there was super RINO Jay McRoy standing in my political and governing way, who always liked to remark, in political settings, how he knew how to "work the numbers." My oh my, how "the fruit does not fall far from the tree."

Still, back then, there was a large element of the Beaufort County GOP that I could depend on; not now., and they did not tolerate the long list of RINO pseudo political wannabes that were beginning to emerge as an established class, who would elect their RINO champions, not matter how sorry and non Conservative they all turned out to be.

At least for now that "Forest Woman" is no longer squatting in the RINO encrusted local party's HQ disparaging me at every point possible. That was the 2022 election for the primary and the general election. I wonder: Is that not yet another instance of RINO "Party Disloyalty" as specified by the Party's Plan of Organization?

Since I returned to the board in 2018 ... Again ... The Beaufort County GOP has been no use to me at all - just the opposite - especially during election. Even now as I seek my 8th term as a county commissioner, elected three times as a non incumbent, I sometimes wonder: What RINO plans they have for my demise?

This will be an interesting primary and general election, and 'I will not go quietly into that good night.' That I promise Van Zant.

You are right Van Zant on so many levels using Conservative Adam O'Neal as an example to manifest the contrasting elements of the RINOs, which that have long infested the Beaufort County GOP's, constant fight against all real Conservatives that work together as a team, of which Adam is one.

Adam O'Neal was an early member of of the modern day Beaufort County GOP, where we built the party into an apparatus that would help Real Republican candidates get elected. Now, the present day GOP works to elect RINOs and RINO Whisperers, while lending sanctuary to the wanton RINOs on the Beaufort County Commissioners; those who have cost Beaufort County Tax Payers tens millions of tax dollars in terrible RINO /Democratic Socialist policy, thereby instituting an political environment that foments the waste, fraud and abuse that has, and will continue to plague Beaufort County tax payers until we, Conservatives, can finally take over the Beaufort County Commission as that Conservative majority that is warranted and badly needed.

The local GOP's record of creating that political environment, where capable Republicans, Real Republicans, serving on the Beaufort County School Board is equally abysmal. Here the RINOs, and the RINO Whisperers on the Beaufort county GOP are just as active in working against these Real Republicans, Conservatives, as they have shown they are capable in working against the Conservatives on the Beaufort County Board of Commissioners, in which there are three out of four commissioners now serving.

It is a sorry story of these incapable hacks playing at politics, while knowing nothing of what real governing constitutes in its essential state, how it works, and how it works well. RINOs and RINO Whisperers will never be the answer to remedying this sorry state of political player plaguing We, the self-governed People, of Beaufort County.

David: The last city council was definitely a "team," and while I am not privy to how the last city council built that "team", it was a "team" nonetheless when they raised taxes 28% in one year.

Beaufort County is 314 years old, and that 28% tax raise for any government "team" within this county, those with the statutory police power of taxation; that exorbitant tax raise must be a record raise ... And it was unconscionable, governmentally feckless, and an incredible sign of gross incompetence.

Nick Fritz and Company will continue to have my unyielding support as long as they endeavor to discover and remedy the local corruption of waste, fraud and abuse.

RINO Hunter: I agree. There needs to be a reckoning, and then we move on ... But ... Without the same know-nothing people occupying space in leadership positions in the Beaufort County GOP.

That reality has gone on for far too long, doing far too much damage to real Conservatives that well realize that the RINO element will eventually finish off the Republican Party of Ronald Reagan and Donald Trump, and others like them.
