Well Stan, I would argue that extremists on either side destabilizing. However, extremists are necessary for a healthy society in the same way fire is necessary to a healthy forest. The complacent need to be made uncomfortable from time to time.
Politically nether extreme can govern. Why? Because humanity transcends ideology. The middle understands this and although they will put up with extremism to a degree, they ultimately crush it. Those that govern successfully believe in truth, the rule of law and can accept a free society will include disagreement. We all have to coexist and no one gets out alive.
