Commented on Opioid Settlement FundsIt appears that we need an orientation program for elected officials. Especially the School Board and County Commission. Who is hired help, and who is running the asylum?

Our thanks to Beaufort Community College's Small Business Division, headed up by Jack Dugan. They have performed a real community service with extensive seminars on how to run, promote, and grow a small business. I would encourage all to stop by and see what has become a very unusual and eclectic collection of merchandise done with professional presentations.

Commented on Climate fears are robbing our youth of hopeTimeline of End-of-the-World Predictions
🔹 1524 – The Great Flood Prediction Who: European astrologers Claim: Planetary alignment would trigger a massive flood on February 1, 1524. Outcome: Nothing happened, but mass panic spread — Londoners even evacuated. 🔹 1666 – Year of the Beast Who: Various preachers and writers Claim: Because of the number “666” in Revelation, many believed the year 1666 marked the apocalypse. Outcome: The Great Fire of London seemed to “prove” it for some, but life went on. 🔹 1844 – The Millerites (The Great Disappointment) Who: William Miller, U.S. preacher Claim: Christ would return between March 1843 and March 1844. Later set to October 22, 1844. Outcome: Thousands gathered; nothing happened. This failure created the Seventh-day Adventist movement. 🔹 1910 – Halley’s Comet Panic Who: Media & amateur astronomers Claim: As Earth passed through the comet’s tail, poisonous cyanogen gas would wipe out humanity. Did not happen.

Running a town, county, or country is like running a business. We can see the success of our country under the leadership of a businessman and not another person with no business experience. We would do well to take a good look at our current City Council. Who on there now has business experience? Why do we need to raise taxes? What is this Council doing for the people of Washington after you leave Third Street? How about flooding and potholes? What are they doing to create Washington as a Bedroom Community for Greenville? Millions are spent on Main Street, but there is not enough parking. What are their plans for growth and development? I have not heard any. Maybe I missed it. Hope someone can fill in the blanks for me.

Commented on Is it Management or Education?Thank you, John Valley. Our major problem is getting the word out. We need more parents involved. Just look at the number of parents who attend the school board meetings. Not many. Then look at our choice of candidates when it is time to vote. Then look at our curriculum. 30 to 35% of our students are at their grades reading level. That means 70% are not. Change the method, change the results.

Commented on Political SausageWhen will this “weak kneed” school board learn that Cheeseman is hired help? He sits beside the school board Chairman and reads the rules at the opening of the school board meeting for the meeting. There are no assignments given by the board to Cheeseman, and no “return and report” from Cheeseman. Eight out of thirteen schools are poor-performing schools. Why? Half of our consolidated school buildings are empty. (Our county commission chairman wants to build another one) Aurora did not just happen. Cheeseman has allowed this erosion since he has been here. After all, they are just mostly black kids, Let’em ride the bus. If we move the remaining students to Chocowinity and the new one thousand k-6 monstrosity building does not fill up here in Washington, which it will not. Then the next move will be to bring Chocowinity k-6 to Washington, close Bath and bring those to Washington and “voila”, the problem is solved. We can have more consolidated schools, and Cheesman is a hero.

Commented on Declaration of IndependenceAbraham Lincoln quoted in the Gettysburg Address:
"Four score and seven years ago our fathers brought forth on this continent, a new nation, conceived in Liberty, and dedicated to the proposition that all men are created equal. .. testing whether that nation, or any nation so conceived, and so dedicated, can long endure." We have been tested and will continue to be tested, but thanks be to God, this great experiment has long endured, and I pray that we will remember those who have given their last great measure of devotion to protect this wonderful country, and that we may all stand as examples like those that have made this a great nation.

Commented on Let Us Not Continue Our Election MistakesLet's take a survey. How many people with business experience do we have on any of our boards? Look at the gallant effort that has been put into trying to save Aurora, except for the school system. Many things attract young people to a community to make it grow. The basics that they all look at are the three S's—school, Service, and Safety. When you kill the school, they do not look any further. The debacle of our county and city taxes and our school system is terrible. Half-filled school buildings, eight schools out of thirteen with poor ratings, 30-35% of our Children at reading level. So instead of fixing the Problem, let's close of one of the poorly rated schools and make the Superintendent look better. After all, they are mostly black kids, let'em ride the bus one to one and a half hours one way to school. That's the easy way out for the board, but a lousy way to run a railroad.

Commented on What’s the price of closing S. W. Snowden?Sometimes when you peel back the onion, you find the rot. Sometimes it is more than one onion. Sometimes you may find mold on the cheese. This whole debacle did not happen overnight. The school has been allowed to deteriorate over the last few years. New young move-ins look for the three S's, Schools, Service, and Safety. Without the first S they do not look any further.

We went through this ordeal with Savvis and the second choice. At the time this was being reviewed, the opening shot from Savvis was the Rain-bow Flag. The second choice selected by Cheeseman's finest committee has a slide on "how to confront the church". Adam Oneal showed this in a slide presentation made to the school board. If it is true that Hudson is pushing this, he needs to talk to the church people who supported him in the last election. It has been suggested several times that the board review the Hillsdale social studies curriculum, which is free and comes with the lesson plans but it has been stalled by this bunch at every turn. As we see our country waking up to reality, we see this bunch living on the wrong side of history. Woke is broke and DEI is dead. The board needs to wake up and examine why you have low-performing schools and 30 to 35% of our children at reading level.

Commented on The Closing of S. W. Snowden Elementary School Appears to be a Done Deal – Unless the School Board Grows a SpineI apologize to the general public for supporting and working to elect these no-votes to the School Board. This turned out to be a real mistake. I pray that we will be able to find competent replacements for them in the next election. What about the County Commission and dollars over people? Look at their surplus funds and the recent Reval. Where is the heart of Elthel Booth, School Board; Ed Booth and Jerry Langly, County Commission, who should be champions for the predominantly black students in Snowden. All voted to close the school. Let's be sure that those who go to vote next time never forget. Did this bunch drink the Frankie Waters Kool-Aid on more school consolidation, along with Cheeseman? They just drove the nail in the coffin for Aurora and Created a nightmare for first graders riding a school bus.

Commented on Why the bow-down to the superintendent? This entire group seems to treat this like a dart game—tossing a few million dollars here, a few million there, just to see what sticks. And if it doesn’t work out? No problem—they’ll just build another one.
Who has been hired to assess what’s actually needed? Cheeseman? None of the current School Board members have the credentials to make these decisions without input from qualified demographers, engineers, and traffic consultants. This “seat-of-their-pants” approach to running our county must end. It’s clear we need a serious house cleaning.

It can be challenging to remain completely objective when addressing deeply ingrained prejudices and beliefs. The primary necessity within the Local Republican Party should be to set aside minor personal conflicts and concentrate on the actual needs and improvements required for local governance and the methods through which we can implement them.
The Republican Party should prioritize what benefits the people, free from personal bias. Morality, integrity, honesty, and truthfulness are often missing in national politics. While the local party can't control the national scene, they can uphold these values locally. "Trust but verify," "Consider the source," and "We the people" are essential principles that should be kept in mind for future endeavors of the Local Republican Party.

If you review some of the past video meetings, you will see that Cheeseman reads the rules for the meeting. He is not a member of the School Board. He is hired help. He is to carry out his job and responsibilities, report, request and to be held responsible for his duties. He is not the chairman of the school board. Looks like we do not have one.
