Nick: Their General Fund budget is 25,000,000. Of that, their ad valorem (property) taxes are 7.5 million. They are not collecting 57 million in taxes from residents. This can all be found in their budget. Also, the taxes are not spread equally across the city. Waterfront areas pay more, obviously. So, NO, every citizen is NOT paying $12,127 or even $10,000+. A lot of revenue is fees. While I agree, their tax increase is insane and their board needs an overhaul. I like transparency from both sides of a debate and saying that they are collecting 57 million in taxes and every citizen is paying $12,127 is highly inaccurate.

I'm no Nostradamus but I predicted the downfall of Aurora in 1974.I told people that they was no way you could mine at the depth they were doing and not disturb the aquifer. As I studied more I said that there was a possibility of polluting the waterways. Slowly over the years my predictions came to life.with Pollutants come the the chance of cancer and that has happened also.

The fact that this woman is still in that job where she can sabotage Trump's Big Beautiful Bill, is an example of the utter treachery of that despicable sell out Mitch McConnell. Thune needs to replace her or be replaced himself.

If Biden controlled the autopen, she would have known it and said it. The fact that she says she does not know who approved it is an admission it was not Biden. Everything done with that autopen ought to be declared invalid.

The City of Washington needs a governmental overhaul; an overhaul that should be drastic in scale.

BCCitizen: there are roughly 4700 employed citizens in the City of Washington. The City's budget is roughly $57 million. (That's $117 million minus $60 million for utilities). That's $12,127 per working working citizen. It's atrocious.

You identified the problem. None of this is communicated to the public to allow them to respond until after the fact. We used to have a daily newspaper that carried information like this and had a wide circulation, but what is left of that newspaper is now a pathetic joke. It would help if online publications like this one would help try to get such information out.

What are council members who genuinely want to represent the public going to do? Realize that this budget is a massive burden on citizens and send it back for cuts. They don't have to have people tell them that to comprehend the problem. Unfortunately, Washington now has a council that is almost all pathetic yes-men who will do what Boss Sadler wants. That needs to change.

Concerned taxpayer, that would require citizens to know what is going on. No one showed up to speak at the public hearing on the budget. What were the elected officials supposed to do when staff recommended a budget that no citizen opposed in public session? Someone must get the information out to the public. Their recommended budget online does not state a tax rate. Unless citizens show up to the meetings where the tax rate was discussed, there was no way for them to know what rate was being used, whether it be at or above revenue neutral. I agree, vote them all out. An increase of 11.5 cent in one budget year is asinine. It is an increase of over 30%. The city manager is saying it is for 4 paramedics but the math doesn't add up!

The Sadler machine has raised city taxes by 11.5 cents above the revenue neutral rate, an enormous increase on top of the revaluation. Washington's citizens are being clobbered with taxes. We need to oust the tax and spend Sadler machine.

Joe Rogan demolished Bernie Sanders on the issue of "global warming" when Sanders appeared on Rogan's podcast. Sanders gave the usual globalist blather and Rogan took him apart with facts.

"Each citizen pays over $10,000 in taxes to the City of Washington in addition to all taxes paid to the county, state, and federal government." - That is a stretch.

Good morning Mr. Blinson,

Thank you for your article of June 17. It was amazing. So many points that I and those of us who have taken a great interest in, you have summed up in this piece. You are so correct that Snowden is a big part of this entire picture currently, but the bigger picture is as Snowden goes, so goes the County of Beaufort. It is not about consolidating everything and pulling it all closer to Washington. That should not be their growth plan. Tt is more about the County Leaders having the foresight to push economic development and growth to all parts of its territory. "Share the wealth and the wealth will be shared with you guys." It is a sad day when a small town feels the need to cross County borders for a vast number of resources; thereby, increasing the economy in its neighboring county, Pamlico, who opened its arms to Aurora/Richland Township residents.

Sincerely,

Joy Peele Dunn, President
Aurora Richland Township Chamber of Commerce

The Trump administration needs to start rigorously enforcing the criminal law on harboring illegal aliens.

When some illegal alien who should have been turned over to ICE for deportation but instead stays here and commits some other horrible crime, it will sink Stein's reelection, and he will deserve it.

All of the fake judges nominated by Biden's autopen ought to be disqualified from office and replaced. Who knows who really appointed them, or even if in some cases they were paid to do so.

Terry Williams supported a Common Core and woke DEI math curriculum called Bridges for Beaufort County schools and on Snowden, he played both sides. He was against it before he was for it, and both positions were probably politically calculated. Beaufort County can do better on the School Board.

Truth does matter. Here are the facts:
1. Terry Williams voted to start the legal school closing process with his tentative vote to close S.W. Snowden School.
2. Terry Williams voted to not close S.W. Snowden School on the final vote.
The public can make their own determination about which vote carried the most weight in the events leading to the closing of Snowden School.

Hood is right about NOT voting on the process, and all junior politicians should take heed and watch what we do (Hood and Stan) since we generally know more than "you" (local politicians not humble enough to know who their betters are).

If it is a bad idea in its inception: NEVER vote for the "process" of that bad idea, and closing Snowden was an incredibly bad idea from its initial start.

Somewhat like building a 53,000,000.00 school that you DO NOT need, at the LOWEST point of the lot, when you first DO NOT get a TITLE SEARCH for land you thought owned, but DID NOT.

Terry, Truth does matter. You voted for the process of closing Snowden. Like a lot of our questionable politicians you are on both sides of this issue. You voted both for it and against it. Mostly you voted voted to save yourself in the 2026 elections, so you can continue to promote your family interests in the school system. Yes honesty does count.

Frankie Waters tenure running Tri-County Telephone into the ground should be a cautionary tale on letting Waters anywhere near management of public money. Under Waters "leadership" Tri County went belly up and had to be sold off to an out-of-town entity.

Terry Williams was a switch-hitter on Snowden. He went along with Cheeseman until the last minute when Cheeseman no longer needed his vote and it was politically advantageous at the very last minute to switch to supporting Snowden. If Williams had truly been a Snowden supporter at an earlier stage where it mattered the end result may have been different, but he preferred to play both sides of the issue the way sleazy politicians do.

The Israeli IDF and Mossad are true badasses on the world stage, especially in the Middle East.

If we watch over the Jews, and keep them as great allies, our nation will be truly blessed.

IMO the Supreme Court needs to hold this so called judge in contempt of court for defying their ruling. This so called judge also needs to be removed from the bench and have his law license revoked.
