Washington Waterfront Sunsets: July 12th through July 14th | Eastern North Carolina Now

As we finish our walk after our short wait beneath the gazebo roof, I shoot just a few more as the sun falls deep beneath a steep bank of clouds, and still there was a certain unique natural beauty.

The third day of this wonderful weekend for the ocular senses was by far the most brilliant, and alas, my wife chose not to accompany me downtown for a third night. In fact, the evening was so unique in its brilliance of perspective, texture and color, I did not complete the 1.5 mile trek, I just took pictures instead - lots of pictures.

Here below are some of my favorites.
That evening, Sunday, July 14, 2013, one could tell that the sunset might be outstanding, due to the type of clouds, mostly cirrus with a smattering of cumulus thrown into the mix for good measure: Above and below.     photos by Stan Deatherage    Click the image to expand to as much as 1000 pixels wide.

Washington's waterfront came alive this night with a rare display of natural fireworks. The clouds were near perfect. All that was needed now was for the sun not to dip behind a bank of clouds at the horizon.

The colors were really coming together at this point, and all I had to do was just be patient, make a few settings on the SLR and click ... click ... click ...
From across the Festival Park, we get a good look at the sun going to sleep: Above and below.     photos by Stan Deatherage    Click the image to expand to as much as 1000 pixels wide.

As the sun slowly dropped lower, I instinctively moved down the boardwalk to the reflective pond with the giant lily pads, where I know the colors will be treated best.
The lovely mood along the boardwalk was all about the short breeze and the long colors framed well by the natural wonders of where the water meets the shore as the sun sinks slowly in the west: Above and below.     photos by Stan Deatherage    Click the image to expand to as much as 1000 pixels wide.

There along the boarded walk, with the iconic Castle Island just a few hundred feet to my south here in narrowest portion of the Pamlico River, finding something to shoot this night was such a simple task.
