Twelve students at Beaufort County Community College were the first to be recognized as "BCCC's Best" in a ceremony on the college campus this week.

    Twelve students at Beaufort County Community College were the first to be recognized as "BCCC's Best" in a ceremony on the college campus this week.

    Those receiving the commendation were Travis Ambrose, Matthew Anderson, Tyler Campbell, Millie Ebron, James E. Jones and Francino Shelton of Washington; Trina Cobb and Lisa Whitley of Chocowinity; Daniel Garza and Nicholas McKey of Columbia; Savannah Equils of Swan Quarter, and Jesse King of Greenville.

    All students - including those who drove great distances to attend class, overcame obstacles to complete their coursework or pursued additional studies beyond the classroom - were cited for their motivation.

    "BCCC's Best" is a project of the Department of Student Services with the goal of recognizing students for their achievements beyond academics.

    Each month "BCCC's Best" highlights a character trait found in students such as motivation, respect, hard work, commitment and involvement in the college.

    Any faculty or staff member may to nominate a student who displays that character trait in the classroom or in other ways on the BCCC campus.

    During the ceremony attended by BCCC faculty and staff and guests of the honorees, Vice President of Student Services Rick Anderson and the nominating faculty or staff member presented each student with a certificate that contained the description of his or her activities.
