BCCC receives Sam Carson Award | Eastern North Carolina Now

    The Region Q Workforce Development Board recently awarded Beaufort County Community college the Sam Carson Award for Excellence in the Promotion of Workforce Development.

    The Sam Carson Award was created by the Region Q Workforce Development Board in December 2007 to recognize the outstanding efforts of the JobLink Career Center, Workforce Investment Act program operator or JobLink partner in Beaufort, Bertie, Herford, Martin and Pitt counties that has demonstrated outstanding efforts in the marketing and promotion of the Workforce Development system.

    BCCC was nominated for the award by the Mid-East Commission and the Beaufort County NCWorks Center.

    The nomination letter for the award cited BCCC as having "a long history of partnership with Mid-East Commission and the Beaufort County NCWorks Center." It refers to BCCC's promotion of Career Readiness Certification, hosting a career fair, providing services and workshops for dislocated workers and new programs such as the Certified Production Technician Program as activities of note at the college.

    The citation reads, in part, "Beaufort County Community College continues to be a proven partner in the promotion of the workforce development system and the Beaufort County NCWorks Center. Their partnership in the NCWorks Center consistently goes above and beyond while we work together in preparing a better workforce for Beaufort County."

    BCCC President Barbara Tansey recently attended a meeting of the Region Q Workforce Development Board in Williamston during which she received the award from Quintan Thurman, board vice chairman.

    On Tuesday, June 3, Wayne Rollins, senior Business Services specialist with Region Q Workforce Development, presented the award to the BCCC Board of Trustees.
