Press Release:

Raleigh, N.C. - Governor Pat McCrory will make stops in Dunn, Greenville and Clemmons tomorrow to celebrate Manufacturing Day in North Carolina. The governor will highlight the rich heritage of manufacturing in our state, while also emphasizing its importance to the future. The governor will also make an economic development announcement while in Greenville.

"North Carolina has always had a strong heritage of manufacturing, and it is an important piece of our state's history," said Governor McCrory. "While we can look to the past and celebrate our rich history in manufacturing, it is equally important that we recognize the future of this great industry in our state. This is a vital industry to North Carolina and a great way to grow our state – not just with traditional manufacturers, but with advanced manufacturers as well."

North Carolina ranks first across southeastern states for manufacturing jobs and is home to over 10,000 manufacturing businesses. The industry employs over 440,000 workers in North Carolina.

"North Carolina is a leader in the southeast and in the nation when it comes to manufacturing," said Sharon Decker, Secretary of the North Carolina Department of Commerce. "We have been recognized as having the most productive workforce of the top manufacturing states, so we are continuing to attract new manufacturing companies as well as the expansion of companies that already have a presence here. It is an important point when we are talking to industries about locating in North Carolina."

Last year, the governor celebrated Manufacturing Day with stops in Castle Hayne, Shelby and Thomasville, announcing close to 400 jobs in one day.
