Beaufort County Community College will cease participation in the Federal Direct Student Loan Program effective July 1, 2015. As a result, BCCC will not originate any new student loans after that date.

The announcement was made this week by BCCC President Barbara Tansey.

This action is being taken because of the trend in BCCC's three-year default rate, she said.

BCCC will continue to offer Pell Grants, veteran's benefits, privately-funded scholarships through the BCCC Foundation and some other forms of financial aid to qualified students.

"The decision to drop out of the Federal Direct Student Loan Program was not taken lightly and is the result of much soul-searching by BCCC's administration and Board of Trustees over the past year," Dr. Tansey said.

BCCC's administration and staff are working hard to identify options to help our students meet the cost of attendance. More information on these options will be forthcoming.

Students with existing student loans who have questions about this announcement are encouraged to contact Loan Officer Barbara Goodman during normal business hours Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays at 252-940-6460.

Prospective students will be notified via U.S. Postal Service by the Office of Financial Aid.

For more information, contact Vice President of Student Services Rick Anderson at 252-940-6417.

Beaufort County Community College is a public comprehensive community college committed to accessible and affordable quality education, effective teaching, relevant training, and lifelong learning opportunities for the people served by the College.
