Regional Councils Of Government Endorse Governor McCrory's Connect NC Bond Proposal | Eastern North Carolina Now

Press Release:

Raleigh, N.C.     Regional councils of government spanning the state have joined the growing contingent of supporters favoring Governor Pat McCrory's Connect NC bond proposal. The Albemarle Commission, the Eastern Carolina Council of Governments, the Mid-Carolina Council of Governments, the Mid-East Commission, the Upper Coastal Plain Council of Governments and the Kerr-Tar Regional Council of Governments have all passed official resolutions in support of placing the bond proposal on the ballot in November 2015.

"Regional councils of government recognize that Connect NC provides creative solutions to cultivate a stronger economy and further develop our highly skilled workforce," Governor McCrory said. "I commend their call to allow the citizens of North Carolina to decide on these important investments in our state's future."

The Mid-Carolina Council resolution underscores the statewide impact of the proposal stating, "These strategic investments, as proposed, are designed to benefit every community across this great state."

The Eastern Carolina Council resolution highlights the importance of acting now declaring, "By not addressing our serious infrastructure deficiencies now, our state will lose its ability to compete in the future, interest rates will go up, costs to taxpayers will increase, congestion will worsen and jobs will not expand at the rate needed to sustain a healthy and vibrant North Carolina."

"The citizens of North Carolina must be allowed to make the important decision of investing in the opportunities provided to our future generations through the Connect NC bond initiative," The Kerr-Tar Council resolution clearly states. All six resolutions call for the General Assembly to allow the voters to decide on these important investments.

Connect NC is targeted investments in North Carolina's roads, education, public health, parks and military. From small farming towns to large cities, Connect NC projects will benefit every community across the state while creating thousands of jobs along the way.

Because of the state's fiscal strength and strong balance sheet, no tax increase is needed to fund the bonds and the state's AAA bond rating would be preserved.
