Dueling Hits - Elvis - 1954-1977 | Eastern North Carolina Now

It would be hard to include just one song from the King, so I have picked one of his most enduring legacies.

Publisher's note: I have initiated this new segment on BCN, where I determine the Best Music Ever ... and, 'with a little help from my friends'. I do this from my opinion, for what that is worth, where I will measure the best music that I am familiar with.

I do this for two reasons: 1) I want to expose the best music that I know to the rest of us. 2) Popular Music today may be the very worst it has ever been, and that is saying much, since I lived through Disco.

For a list of all of the contributions to this series, please click here.

As previously mentioned, there will be others who share their favorites with our BCN readers, in particular here, Bobby Tony.

The King Elvis has to be included in the Dueling Music Greatest collection.

It would be hard to include just one song from the King, so I have picked one of his most enduring legacies.

Somehow in the crucible of a life burnt out too soon, or an overindulgence in excess, Elvis managed to make a mark on history with a simple combination of three songs which cover the love of the south, the love of the country, and finally the ideal of a a poor Mississippi boy who may not have lived the perfect life but clearly understood the depth of his a spiritual being. The 1954-1977 reference above is not his life but his short 23 years in the music business.

The picture below illustrates to me the boy before he got lost in the fame.
