News Release:

    Good Evening:

Anybody going to South Carolina Beaches should take a good book or games for children as it will be a wet Holiday Weekend. The current models show the storm becoming tropical prior to coming ashore, if it comes ashore? After talking with the NWS in Morehead they explained that this storm may not come ashore and work its way up the coast very slowly affecting our weather through Wednesday of next week.

Currently for the Aurora Fossil Festival and the Bathfest tomorrow everyone should have an umbrella with them mid-afternoon through the evening. The current forecast shows a 50 percent chance of thunderstorms after 3:00pm. Sunday through Monday are indicating rain and in some cases heavy at times. Current models are seen below. Beaches could experience some severe rip currents along the South Carolina and North Carolina beaches for the weekend.

First Responders should watch out for the normal areas of ponding water and the increased traffic flows along our three major highways. Weather updates will be sent out as the situation dictates. The Command/Coordination trailer will be deployed to Bath today to support a combined Incident Command for Fire and EMS response as a result of both events occurring tomorrow. There are not many times when we have major events occurring in Beaufort County at the same time on opposite sides of the river.

Have a safe and weather aware weekend!

Memorial Day: Remember those that gave their lives, so that we may continue to live in freedom as spelled out in the Constitution of the United States and the Declaration of Independence. The "National Moment of Remembrance" resolution was passed on Dec 2000 which asks that at 3 p.m. local time, for all Americans "To voluntarily and informally observe in their own way a Moment of remembrance and respect, pausing from whatever they are doing for a moment of silence or listening to 'Taps.
