    Glen Neal Titus, Jr., a resident of 101 Tucker Lane, Washington, NC died Tuesday February 28, 2017 at Vidant Beaufort Hospital in Washington, NC.

    Funeral services will be held at First United Methodist Church sanctuary at 1:00 p.m. Thursday March 2, 2017 conducted by Rev. Danny Allen and Rev. Ken Hall. Interment will be at Burchwood Cemetery in Roxboro, NC at 11:00 a.m. on Friday March 3, 2017. Pallbearers will be Tommy Boyd, Ace Futrell, Phil Simmons, Carl Rogers, Mark Sharlow, Abbott Tunstall, Jimmy Mobley and Art Woolard. Honorary pallbearers are Dallas Jackson, Joe Toler, Bob Thomas, Bill Gregory, Carl "Butch" Bennett, and Sammy Sandow.

    Mr. Titus was born February 21, 1945 in Roxboro, North Carolina. He was the son of the late Glen Neal Titus, Sr. and Cleo Patterson Fox Titus. He attended Helena High School and graduated Valedictorian of his class in 1963. He then attended and graduated from Louisburg College with an Associate of Arts Degree in 1965. In 1967, he graduated from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill with a Bachelor's Degree. He began his teaching career at Chocowinity High School in the fall of 1967. He, also, began coaching baseball and assisted with coaching football and basketball. In 1976, he received his Master's Degree in Education from East Carolina University.

    On November 28, 1968, he married Linda Cobb Hamlin. Children born to their union were twin daughters, Stephanie Carol Titus and Emily Pattrice Titus, and a son, Glen Neal Titus, III.

    Stephanie is married to Stewart Lawrence Woodley and they make their home in Greenville, NC. Emily is married to William Mark Holley and they make their home in Clayton, NC. Glen is married to Courtney Diane Tyson and they make their home in Wilmington, NC. Grandchildren include Caleb Lawrence Woodley, Samantha Dawn Woodley, William Seth Holley, Brooke Elizabeth Holley, Lucy Blu Titus, and Caroline Scout Titus. Other survivors include his aunt, Marjorie Titus Goble, of Illinois and a sister-in-law, Dale Hamlin Barnette of Roxboro, NC.

    Mr. Titus was preceded in death by two grandsons, Fox Bennett Titus and Job Tyson Titus.

    Mr. Titus taught school, coached, and served as principal in the Chocowinity School system for thirty-seven years. He retired in 2004 after serving as assistant principal of Chocowinity Primary School for eight years and principal for twenty years. He continued to work part-time as a consultant for new principals in Beaufort County until 2006. Illness required that he retire when he did, much to his disappointment in not being able to continue in his much-loved profession.

    In 1972 he was awarded Outstanding Young Educator in Beaufort County by the Washington Jaycees. In 1975 and 1978, he was named Girls' Basketball Coach of the year. In 1998 he was named Principal of the Year in Beaufort County.

    Mr. Titus was a member of First United Methodist Church in Washington and served as chief usher for many years. Illness required that he resign from this much-loved position.

    Mr. Titus was very active in the Washington Band Boosters for the nine years that his children were in the band. He was the treasurer for eight years and was very instrumental in establishing the Colonial Band Classic held at Washington High School in the early 1990s.

    He and his wife became dedicated supporters of the Marion L. Shepard Cancer Center in Washington after he was diagnosed with leukemia and lymphoma in 1997 and multiple myeloma in 1999. Persons wishing to make donations in his memory are encouraged to make them to the Marion L. Shepard Cancer Center, 1209 Brown Street, Washington, NC 27889 or to the First United Methodist Church Building Fund, P.O. Box 715, Washington, NC 27889.

    The family will receive friends at the home at 101 Tucker Lane, Runyon Hills, Washington, and at the visitation from 6 to 9 p.m. Wednesday March 1, 2017 at Paul Funeral Home & Crematory in Washington.

    The family will receive friends in Roxboro at Brooks and White Funeral Home from 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday March 2, 2017.

    The family would like to express their deep appreciation to the staff of the Marion L. Shepard Cancer Center, and Dr. Carney Taylor of Eastern Nephrology in Greenville, NC.
