Students and Staff Reach Out to Veterans at Christmas | Eastern North Carolina Now

Students at Bath Elementary, Eastern Elementary, J.C. Tayloe Elementary and P.S. Jones Middle Schools in Beaufort County sent out special greetings this holiday season.

These schools took part in the Making the Holidays Brighter for Our Veterans - Holiday Card Project 2011. This is the sixth year of the initiative put on by the Battleship North Carolina in Wilmington.

Several classrooms around the county tied this project in with the Character Education Trait for the month which very appropriately was kindness and gratitude. The shipment of cards, which includes additional cards from BCS staff members, will reach Wilmington by Monday to head out for distribution.

From the Battleship North Carolina website:

"Battleship NORTH CAROLINA is the state's World War II memorial, but we are also privileged to honor all of our men and women who have served our country. By sending cards to veterans in Veterans Affairs Medical Centers during the holiday season, we let them know that they are not forgotten."

    Various photos of cards attached!
