Jay Briley named President of Vidant Community Hospitals | Eastern North Carolina Now

Press Release:

GREENVILLE, N.C.     May 2, 2018     Vidant Health is pleased to announce that Jay Briley has been selected president of Vidant Community Hospitals (VCOM), effective June 1, 2018.

"After conducting an extensive recruitment process with one of the country's top executive health care search firms and an in-depth interview process with various stakeholders including providers, senior leaders and Vidant Board Members, Jay emerged as the ideal leader for this role based on his professional experience and personal attributes," said Brian Floyd, president of Vidant Medical Center. "Jay is a visionary leader with proven results and extensive knowledge and understanding of the complexities to lead and develop clinical and operational strategies that will help propel us to become the national model for rural health and wellness."

As the president of VCOM, Briley will be responsible for the leadership, oversight and success of seven community hospitals throughout eastern North Carolina. In addition, his responsibilities will also include providing leadership to designated system-wide services and functions.

Briley has been with Vidant for more than 15 years and is a native of eastern North Carolina. Since 2011, he has been the president of Vidant Duplin in Kenansville, N.C. Under his leadership, the hospital has received national recognition by The Joint Commission, including achieving a Primary Stroke Center Certification and becoming a Top Performer on Key Quality Measures. In addition, Vidant Duplin has been nationally ranked as high as six out of 124 community hospitals by Vizient - the largest member-driven, health care performance improvement company in the country. During his tenure at Vidant Duplin, Briley also led a renovation that expanded the hospital's emergency department, initiated a cancer care program and developed a behavioral health/substance abuse case management program.

"It is a privilege and honor to be selected as the new president of Vidant Community Hospitals," said Briley. "This is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity at a great health care system. I look forward to working together with our dedicated leaders, providers and team members who are focused on improving the health and well-being of eastern North Carolina."

Briley will replace current VCOM president Roger Robertson, who is retiring in June after 30 years at Vidant. Until a permanent replacement at Vidant Duplin is named, Sue Taylor, vice president of patient care services, will assume those responsibilities.

Briley received his Bachelor of Arts degree in political science and master's in health care

administration from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
