NC Spin will host a daylong forum on healthcare called "What the Health: Can We Survive Our Healthcare System? | Eastern North Carolina Now

On Tuesday, March 20th, NC SPIN, North Carolina's only independent statewide talk show, will host a daylong forum on healthcare called "What the Health: Can We Survive Our Healthcare System?"

This is one healthcare event that promises to be different. A handpicked steering committee has crafted a special day that begins at 8:30 a.m. with a keynote address from Dr. Victor Dzau of Duke Health Systems. Dr. Dzau will talk about why our current healthcare system isn't sustainable, the important elements in healthcare, innovative methods to improve healthcare and lower costs. He will also challenge us to find solutions. Following Dr. Dzau, you will hear comments from Erskine Bowles, co-chair of the National Commission on Fiscal Responsibility and Reform, which specifically addresses problems with healthcare.

The day will continue with the results of a statewide poll showing how well people are informed about healthcare issues, what they believe are the problems in the current system and what can be done to improve healthcare. There will be three panel discussions. One will focus on what we value most, fear most and on what can we agree regarding healthcare. A second panel will discuss some exciting new ideas, innovations and best practices. The third panel will focus on personal, corporate, professional and government responsibility in healthcare.

In addition to lunch, there will be important periods for audience interaction through Q&A sessions. You can also expect a surprise announcement or two. Registration is $45 per person, which includes all materials and lunch. Groups of five or more and students will be admitted for $35 each.
