John Small Elementary School will host its 3rd Annual Career Day



    March 16, 2012. The main objectives are to educate fourth and fifth grade students about future opportunities, expose them to a variety of careers available, and connect what they are learning in school to real-world situations. The event will begin in the media center at 7:45am with a breakfast reception honoring the volunteers.

    At 8:30am students will begin rotating through different career stations and participate in a variety of educational activities. Some of the careers featured include: police officers, pharmacists, TV cameraman, anesthesiologist, park ranger, banker, teacher, movie maker, librarian, DOT worker, broker/real estate, optometrist, personal trainer, mayor, attorney, dog handler, truck driver, spa
therapy, and many more!

    Outside Agencies Participating:Approximately 40-50 community members.

    Specific Location of Event:John Small Elementary - Entire Campus - Grade Levels Participating:4th-5th grades.

    Time of the Event:Friday, March 16, 2012     8:30-11:00 am
        (Reoccurring at times throughout the day morning.)

On March 10th, the Washington JROTC will sponsor a Raider and Drill meet


    Twelve teams from eastern North Carolina will be in attendance. The Raider event will begin at 8:00 AM with a physical fitness test. The skills events will begin at approximately 9:15 AM. Skills includes: constructing and crossing a one rope bridge (good photo event), First aid treatment and evacuation, land navigation and rock wall climb.

    Drill competition beings at approximately 11:15 with regulation, color guard and fancy events. Fancy with weapons is usually the event that draws the most interest with the spinning and throwing of rifles.

    Event should end at approximately 3:30 PM. This is one of the biggest JROTC drill meets in eastern North Carolina.
