Manufacturing Company will Expand in Cherokee County Creating 20 Jobs | Eastern North Carolina Now

    RALEIGH: Moog Inc., a worldwide designer, manufacturer, and integrator of precision control components and systems, will expand its plant in Murphy and create 20 jobs, Governor Roy Cooper announced today. The company plans to invest $1.8 million in Cherokee County.

    "Large manufacturers like Moog have many choices when selecting a business location," said Governor Cooper. "I'm pleased this company's first-hand experience with North Carolina's workforce gives them the confidence to expand in our state."

    Moog Inc., with corporate headquarters in East Aurora, New York, manufacturers high-performance systems for a wide variety of business applications. The Murphy facility produces motion control and electronic components for industrial, commercial, medical, aerospace and defense applications, with a specialization in brushless and brush type DC motors and blowers, military and commercial solenoids, and synchros and resolvers.

    "Moog is the largest industrial employer in Cherokee County," said Commerce Secretary Anthony M. Copeland. "The growth of this important economic engine is a testament to the many advantages North Carolina offers manufacturing companies, from our skilled workforce to the state's superior business climate."

    N.C. Commerce and the Economic Development Partnership of N.C. were instrumental in supporting the company's decision to locate in the state.

    The average annual wage of all the new jobs announced today will be $30,420, close to the Cherokee County average wage of $30,804.

    A performance-based grant of $50,000 from the One North Carolina Fund will help facilitate Moog's move into Cherokee County. The One NC Fund provides financial assistance to local governments to help attract economic investment and to create jobs. Companies receive no money upfront and must meet job creation and capital investment targets to qualify for payment. All One NC grants require a matching grant from local governments and any award is contingent upon that condition being met.

    Partnering with the North Carolina Department of Commerce and the EDPNC on this project were the North Carolina General Assembly, the North Carolina Community College System, Tri-County Community College, Cherokee County, and the Cherokee County Economic Development Department.
