Press Release:

Today Dr. Virginia Foxx, Congresswoman for North Carolina's 5th congressional district, endorsed Dr. Joan Perry for Congress in the NC-3 Special Election to fill the seat of the late Congressman Walter Jones. As a Republican leader in the U.S. House of Representatives, Dr. Foxx is a champion of conservative values who has worked relentlessly to bring conservative values to Congress. Foxx is the past Chairwoman of the House Education and the Workforce Committee and a member of the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee.

"Dr. Joan Perry will solve problems in Washington the same way she always has: by empowering families, not the government," said Foxx. "She's served parents and children for over 30 years as a pediatrician and devoted countless hours in the classroom as a school volunteer and adjunct university professor. We need more representatives in Congress who know the obstacles facing families today and the positive impact a teacher can make. She's seen the negative results when government interferes in healthcare and seen the success that students can achieve when pushed and loved by caring adults. Send her to Washington, and you'll be amazed at the difference a strong conservative mom will make."

"Nobody works harder to represent her constituents in Congress than Virginia Foxx, and her track record shows that hard work and a backbone can make all the difference," stated Perry. "I'm thankful for her support because we share a commitment to a smaller federal government, a better-trained workforce, and stronger families."

Dr. Joan Perry is a Phi Beta Kappa graduate of UNC-Chapel Hill, where she was one of the first women to earn the Morehead Scholarship. During medical school at UNC, she married her husband, Jimbo, and stayed there for an additional three years to complete her residency in pediatrics. With the birth of her first son during medical school and second son during internship/residency, Joan quickly learned how to juggle the demands of motherhood and a career. Upon residency completion, she moved to Kinston where she and Jimbo added three more sons to the line-up. She later earned appointments to the UNC Board of Governors, Gov. Pat McCrory's health and human services transition team, and Gov. Jim Martin's North Carolina Day Care Commission. A dedicated triathlete, she and her husband have housed more than 20 youth and young adults who needed a loving home. They helped to start Grace Fellowship Church over 25 years ago and remain active members today.
