Although the letters to the editor expressing concern over the state senate campaign of Randy Ramsey far outnumber those expressing support for his campaign, there has been one theme the supporters seem to have in common. They believe Randy Ramsey will "get things done" and "bring things back from Raleigh" for our county. This week we got an example of what Randy Ramsey will bring to our county: unwanted attention and embarrassment.

The Carolina Journal's online edition did a front page lead story on Randy Ramsey's ties to the North Carolina Democratic Party and to the unreported campaign flights he provided to Bev Perdue. Now the whole state knows that Carteret County has a major player in the Democrat political machine running for state senate as a Republican. Ramsey's liberal friends would be proud though. It is true that Ramsey has never run for political office, but his years of associating with Democrat elected officials sure have him sounding like a seasoned liberal politician.

When the reporter asked Ramsey details about the airplane flights for Perdue and specifically who asked him to make his private plane available for Perdue, he channeled his inner Bill Clinton and said "I don't remember-don't know who asked."

Yes, Randy Ramsey says he will bring a lot to Carteret County. He already has. Unwanted attention. This is the type of attention we could do without.
