Northeast Elementary School News | Eastern North Carolina Now

For Immediate Release:

These latest announcements from the Northeast Elementary School, via the Beaufort County School System, reminds us that schools are a focal point of activity.

Mr. John Brinn from Rose Acre Egg Farm recently visited with Mrs. Arthur, Mrs. Crosby and Mrs. Phelps’ 2nd graders at Northeast Elementary School. Mr. Brinn provided information to the students about the egg production that takes place at Rose Acre. A video tour was also shown of Rose Acre Egg Farm in Hyde County. Lastly, Mr. Brinn gave each student an egg carton filled with “goodies”, a coloring book and pencils. This visit was part of the study that they 2nd graders are doing with the chicken life cycle. Each class is actively participating in the process of incubating eggs and waiting anxiously for the little chicks to hatch.

On Thursday, April 5, Samantha Warren was recognized at Northeast Elementary’s Nine Weeks Awards Assembly for her prize winning bookmark entry. Artwork created by the Fifth Grade students at NES was submitted to the contest by their art teacher, Mrs. Kathy M. Brinn. Samantha’s drawing was chosen as the Area 5 winner. This contest, "The Importance of Estuaries", was sponsored by the Beaufort Soil and Water Conservation District. Materials were made possible for participating Area 5 Soil and Water Conservation Districts through a grant from the Albemarle-Pamlico National Estuary Program. The APNEP grant also provided funding for printing 2,000 copies of the winner's bookmark for each participating district in Area 5 and 10,000 copies of the overall winner, a student from Hertford County. Copies of Samantha's bookmark can be found in public libraries around the county, including the Belhaven Public Library and the NES library; the Estuarium and Goose Creek State Park in Washington as well as various Belhaven businesses.
