Veteran Educator Takes Helm at John Small Board of Education approves Green as lead administrator | Eastern North Carolina Now

During Monday's special called meeting of the Beaufort County Board of Education, Betty Jane Green was approved as the new principal of John Small Elementary.

    During Monday's special called meeting of the Beaufort County Board of Education, Betty Jane Green was approved as the new principal of John Small Elementary. Green, currently serving as an assistant principal at Washington High School, will begin her new duties on June 18.

    "We are delighted to have someone with Ms. Green's experience stepping into this position for John Small Elementary School," explained Dr. Don Phipps, Superintendent of Beaufort County Schools. "She brings a great deal of knowledge to the table. We are confident her own learning experiences, from the classroom to administration, will benefit the students and staff of John Small Elementary School a great deal."

    Green began her career with Beaufort County Schools in 1978, when she began teaching at Bath High School. From 1979 to 1998, Green taught middle school math at P.S. Jones Middle School in Washington. She continued teaching math at Washington High School until her move to administration when she was named assistant principal for the Pam Pack in April of 2007.

    She will take over for Joe Tkach, who has served as interim principal since the departure of Lisa Tate earlier this year. Green will be teamed with Ted Melton, the current assistant principal for John Small Elementary School.

    During the same meeting, the Board of Education approved the transfer of Patricia Horton, the current assistant principal at Northeast Elementary School, to Washington High School.
